1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: New Home Starter kit? on: November 27, 2008 10:39:21 PM
My suggestion is get a large laundry basket and fill it with stuff.  I needed a lot of stuff like this when I first moved.

-Dish towels
-Scented candles
-Coasters, pot holders, and placemats (you could make a matching set with some cute fabric)
-Some cleaning supplies from the dollar store....this is a must, I never had everything I needed for a good housecleaning when I first moved
-A small rug or welcome mat

and take a trip to the dollar store..some of the big ones have really cute glasses and dishes and whatnot.

3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Fair Foods on: June 10, 2008 11:56:27 AM
The Michigan State Fair always has at least 50 barbeque stands.   I looooooove fair bbq.  You know it's authentic when behind the stand is a giant barrel-shaped grill and an old black man grillin.

Also, I love elephant ears, and of course corn dogs.  I have always loved corn dogs.  With LOTS of mustard.
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Solar Cooking on: June 10, 2008 11:52:39 AM
When I was a kid I saw how to make a solar oven on Bill Nye or a similar show.  I really want to try it, I hate cooking in the kitchen in this heat.

She has some great recipes, the instructions are very clear, and most of her recipes are pretty versatile.

Shishkabobs!  Marinate them over night in italian dressing.  Then pop them on wooden skewers (soaked in water so they don't burn) with some onion, green pepper, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes or whatever veggies you have.

Then grill em.

This is what I'm having for dinner tomorrow, my meat is marinating right now.
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Early 40's flared dress! on: June 04, 2008 04:29:17 PM
That is one of the hottest dresses I've ever seen.  I would love to make one but I don't have the skill yet...maybe one day.  When pattern drafting no longer terrifies me.

The fur is a great touch.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Making neat necklines on: April 09, 2008 01:08:01 PM
I am pretty much a noob to sewing, I just got a sewing machine and I have been doing mostly reconstructions and stuff to start.

Whenever I sew a neckline it always looks...not right, kind of messy.  Are there some kind of neckline technique that I am unnaware of? or does it just take more practice to make them look nice?
