1  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Several questions. on: May 18, 2008 06:04:12 PM
I apologize in advance if any of these questions have been recently asked.  I would search through the recent topics, but the few I looked through went completely over my head.  I know almost nothing about gardening, so I wouldn't know what to look for in the topics.

I'm interested in getting some sort of vines for my mailbox.  At the moment there is one clematis (only of three to survive) that has one vine about a foot tall, and I don't like the look of it.  Any suggestions of a plant that would just take off and almost cover the entire mailbox?  My mailbox is this nasty-ugly plastic thing, I want it covered, ha.

I'm also really interested in getting an upside-down planter.  The tutorials I've found on how to make them haven't been extremely clear though (which may only be because I'm ignorant to gardening and don't understand the terminology).  Do rocks come between the plant roots and soil?  That whole bit about adding rocks to aid in draining as well as prevent loss of soil kind of lost me.  What sort of plants can be grown upside down; only tomatoes?  Do these plants have to be grown in soil for a period of time before turned upside down?  I understand they can't grow from seeds, but if the plant has a few inches of so can I put it in the planter and hang it, or... ?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!  Please be patient with me and explain things as if you were talking to a two year old. Tongue
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Lots of denim and zipper sliders on: February 10, 2008 06:14:06 PM
We were throwing out this old couch from the teen room at my church because it's so torn up that it's blowing foam.  I salvaged a TON of denim and six zippers from it.  Also, a guy from my church gave me a bunch of zipper sliders and hog rings that he had from when he used to do upholstery.  He said that when he can find it he'll bring me the big roll of zipper he has (or whatever you call the actual part with the teeth... yeah...).

I'm so pumped about getting all of this stuff!  Now I just have to think of something to do with all of it...
