1  Ohio / Ohio: Central / clothing donations/banks on: April 07, 2009 08:39:48 AM
Hello,

I have been living in columbus for about 2.5 years and am an avid organizer.  I go through my apartment about every 3-4 months and donate stuff. I reorganize and donate things that I no longer use.  I am also an avid thrift store shopper and can say I am really getting fed up lately with the higher prices.  I am going to be donating some of my nicer clothes(things that did not come from a thrift store) and I really want people that need, to be able to purchase it or get it for free.

I am originally from seattle and I grew up quite poor.  When I was little we were allowed to go to a "clothing bank", like a food bank but for clothes.  I was allowed to pick out whatever I wanted and it was free.  You obviously had to meet an income requirement and the clothes, unfortunately, were not that cool.

Anyways, I am looking for a place like that here that I can donate directly to.  Huh  And/or a place that doesn't charge the less fortunate too much for nice clothes???

Thank you.

Oh my gosh!  That is so cool!  I am from seattle, washington and the outdoors was a big part of my life there.  I moved to columbus in november and have since started school at ccad, so i have had no time to do anything but school.  However, i really want to get out here and exlplore what you have before i move back to the great northwest in a few years.

I checked out this website and it sounds awesome.  I sent the info to some of my friends back in washington so they can find the ones there, and i think i am going to try to find some here this summer.  It should be a good way for me to explore and learn the area.

Such a cool idea!

hey awesome you guys!  you really feel like you are the only one who is doing this when you are, and everyone looks at you like either it doesnt matter or you are crazy.

that is so cool that you guys moved here from far too.  i am definitely going to check out hocking hills, that has been the number one suggested place.  i will try to check the others too.  but we wont do much till spring.  winter doesnt allow for alot of outdoors, here.

easton totally blew me away.  except i cant afford a dam thing there.  so i do browse for ideas and wishes.

but rachofthejungle:where does this group meet, when, and what type of crafts?Huh  i am not doing much right now because of work, housewiving, and getting stuff together for school.  But i would really like to hang out with something other than my tv and computer.  i havent met anyone really yet.  what is your specific art major?

to facelikeallama:  how long have you been here?  what are you going for at ccad?  are you here by yourself?  that is so nice to talk to someone who can remember mt rainier in person, the alpine lakes, or ocean shores, or any of the landscapes of the seattle area.  The RAIN is not so bad!

thanks you guys, hope to hear from you soon.

thanks so much.  well we like it here so far, but i want to see snow.  and it just so happened to snow a whole bunch back home over this week.  it has been all over the news.  it is the worst snow storm washington has had in a long time.  when i lived there my entire life we were lucky to get 1-2 inches and that was only for one day out of the year.  in addition it would melt half way through the day.  i can;t believe it!  i know it will snow here, that is what everyone says.  i just cant wait!!!

hi there again!! it has been awhile.  WELL we are finally here.  we have been here for about 2 weeks.  We found a great location that is only 5 minutes from easton and about 15 minutes from downtown.  i am close to all the shopping i need, school, and work.  so far i really like columbus, but it is a little colder at times.  i am looking forward to snow whenever it decides to come.  thanks for all your advice and input. Smiley

thanks for the links mpicky.  I will definitely check out the apartments.com link.  the cherry blossom places look great, but do not allow pets.  we have my cat,and he is my kid.  thanks so much though.

there is so much to choose from for living.  Im ready to go now, but too bad we are not leaving until the end of october.

I was wondering if there is like a columbus trademark?  for example seattle has the famous pictures of their skyline with the space needle.  i just wonder if there is something like that in columbus.  i want to put two pictures next to each other in our living room when we move. you know like one of seattle and one of columbus, like our two worlds.

how do you pm someone?  i have more of a lurker than a communicator on here until now. thanks

you guys are the best!!!!  I appreciate this so much.  i am really starting feel good about going there.  if there are people like you guys there it should be great.

moptop how long have you guys been married?  i have been with my boyfriend for almost 4 years, but no marriage yet Sad

i loved the pictures.  we are going to take i-90 into montana, probably stop and stay in missoula, butte, or billings.  then we are going to continue on i-90 through south dakota, minnesota, and wisconsin.  we plan to stop and stay in kenosha, wisconsin.  We have a friend we want to stop and see, plus i LOVE CHEESE.  then we hope to take one of the smaller freeways around chicago and connect with i-74 which turns into i-70.  i-70 goes right through columbus, ohio.  so we actually have no idea what we are doing but by lookin at maps that is what we have come up with. we were worried about the snow in the north because we aren't leaving until the very end of october.

keep on recycling!!!  that is awesome that your husband makes beer.  my uncle is the brewmaster for Hale's Ales out here in preston, wa outside of issaquah, wa.  When we get there we would love to try and meet up with you guys and try some of the beer and ohio culture. this is so funny, i even have some good guy friends that are working on there own brewing company here in my hometown.

They have a trader joes out there??  cool. do they have an rei out there?  i heard there is an indoor climbing club in cloumbus, at least that is what it said on ccad school website.

mcorwin thanks for the bank info.  none of those banks are over here.  we found a couple of key banks listed online in columbus, and they are all over here.  Does anyone think that is a good bank?

THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!!

Thanks for the insight into gahanna and westerville mr pickles.  I looked at some places online in those cities yesterday.

mop top why did you guys move across the country?  was it for school or work?  i am actually trying to go on a weekend backpacking trip before i leave.  i am abig outdoors person and hiker.i can see mt rainier from my house here in auburn.  i am scared to leave the beautiful mountains.  Is there any hiking or outdoor adventures out there?

i wish i had the money to fly out there first, we are totally blind about columbus.  It should be quite an adventure!!!

we are hoping to do the trip in 4 days.  if we drive about 650 miles a day, the trip is 2465 miles, we should be there at the end of the 4th day.  we are leaving extra time though.

you now what is sad though.  there are so many things here that i haven't seen or done, like i have never even been to portland and i have lived here my entire life.  if i get the chance before i leave i am going to visit some places.

Thanks so much you guys!! i really need support because everyone around me here is so negative all the time.  It is like people here and my family aren't happy for me.  They are really mean!  I feel so alone in the whole thing because my boyfriend would rather stay here so i am doing all the work regarding moving.

Anyways propbably too much info!!!  i always have more questions so if you guys want to try to answer them let me know.

heres two final questions for today:

What is a good national bank that is in columbus and all over the us?

Any advice on how to travel with a cat in a uhaul for 4 days?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

thank you for the response.  The compusa is in easton town center, so i guess we are going to try to look between dowtown(ccad) and easton town center.   We are looking between the 500-600 dollar range.  i am so excited to move!!!  i will definitely check out wholly craft.  what type of store/place is it?  Someone else said something about the columbus dispatch paper.  I will definitely check out the papers you recommended too.  Thanks again.

Is there any good studio art groups in columbus??  i will be there a couple of months before i start school to get settled in and it would be great if i could get involved with some of the art community when i get there.  Are there any nude drawing groups or places?

Thanks from the washingtonian!
