My mother (I've nicked named her "madame tries too hard") overheard me talking to my roommate about my desire to learn to spin. 

Two days later (yesterday), I get an email saying she's bought me a spindle and is sending it my way.

this is what it looks like:



It's a top whorl.  According to my mother it's got a 1.2 ounce weight, 2" whorl, and has an 8" shaft.

Am I entirely effed?  Is this too light?  I'm really excited/worried.  So... what do you think?

I made a pasha awhile ago for my lenux nerd roommie and I only used one thread for his black bits, but didn't see the same problem you had.  Weird.  What kind of yarn did you use?

I'm almost done!  I've got to go out after work tomorrow and get a few more things, but with the way things are going I should be ready to send out by Monday.

I, unfortunately, have only had the time to make it to 2 First Fridays since I've been here.  A combination of work and a fussy roommate make it hard for me to go do things sometimes, but such is my life.

I'm finding Knoxville to be more and more interesting.  I thought I'd die the first month or so I was here, but it's got a nice kitchiness to it that I'm slowly discovering.

during halftime we just switched it over to animal planet and watched the halftime show of the puppy bowl.  which was kittens.  it was pretty amazing.

then my patriots loving Gram called me and starting yelling about how spygate was a conspiracy.

I made red and blue felt coasters for all the cold beer bottles that would be sitting on my nice new cherry wood coffee table. And I made homemade Pom Poms for all of us ladies that were at my superbowl party and our DH/SO's thought we were COOL because of it! Found a tutorial on a diy craft website.

I made everyone try my chocolate covered ginger altoids and NO ONE liked them. More for me....

That sounds like an awesome super bowl party.

I'd just like to throw it out there that Bill Belichick was being a classless baby.  And Eli Manning totally deserved to spank the Patriots like he did.

My Gram was my inspiration to start knitting/crochetting.  She tried to teach me when I was a wee 'un, but I just couldn't get it.

Then when I picked it up in late high school, Gram decided it was time to start giving me yarn she wasn't using.  That was fine for then.  I didn't have a job, and was perfectly fine using cheap-o Red Heart type stuff....

However, 5 years later, she's decided to start buying me yarn.  Yesterday she sent me a package of 7 skeins of Yarn Bee Dreamy Chenille in Island Teal and one in Licorice.
I love chenille, and it would break my heart to go visit Gram this summer and tell her that I haven't used her yarn and/or gave it away, but I don't know what to do with it.

I'd be happy to guess at the size for you using *my* gauge ... but in this particular sweater, I think the hip measurement is probably more meaningful than the bust (since it doesn't button at the bust). Give me that, and I'll make a stab at it!

I'm actually pretty sure 39" is going to be the hip measurement as well.
I'm nice and boxy like that.
