SO  I appliqued a lil sumpin sumpin on it

I used a men's navy blue T shirt for the bodice and some MINT condition Star Wars official bed sheets.........I left the back open for maximum dance moves and added a lil Jedi applique to the back because we all have the ability to access "the Force"

ok this was a SERIOUS crowd pleaser at a baby shower. if  you want to have the best gift ever (and know the baby will be a little boy....) you've gotta make these!!

all you need is a simple applique process which requires........... . double sided fusible web (i used heat n bond lite), store bought onesie/jumpsuits, thread, stabilizer of your choice (i used newspaper)

make a nice short and wide zig zag stitch (a.k.a. satin stitch)....i recommend practicing on a scrap piece of fabric to get the stitch and tension just right

my friend called this the "Trump" tie and the power tie


i also considered stitchin' on food such as a slice of pizza point towards the head ....what would you do ?

i finally took down the mini blinds that came with my house.
i had a bolt of this awesome cream colored camel print with mountains and triangles. it was actually destined to be a curtain (i think  ) because the camels & mountains were only on one end of the fabric when it was folded out.

check it out.



i made it double thickness by sewing the right sides together of two giant rectangles.  i left about two inches open on either side for the curtain rod to slide through.

here she is in all her glory. i know all the plants are in the way, but that is where they live .


i wanted to be able to swoop the curtain quickly for lots of light. so i placed my plant holder in just in right place.

[i cropped some sweatpants and saved the scraps and created a great belted iTouch cozy for my man for christmas.i have been trying to hone my applique skills, so i knew it had to have a personalized applique. in honer of one of our big dogs, Pablo, i made a paw print that is about his size. i heat bonded some great light sage green linen and satin stitched in baby blue all the way around the edges. on to the pixintroducing....Mr. Pablo McPete (that not my last name, just his ) i did lots of fun top stitching along the velcro tabthe belt loop the boyfriend really liked it and has been wearing it around his work.thanks! i just love sharing with all of you!!!]

here are a couple of reconstructed button down blouses.
the first one i really liked, but the second one didn't really do it for me.....they both have a top stitched casing for a ribbon "cincher". it makes for a feminine effect.


this top started as a really fitted women's top

i added panels along the side sleeve seams. and a band along the bottom hem

this top started as a men's button down that was huge! with a cut and a snip and a stitch

i did raglan style sleeves

the neckline and sleeves have elastic

i finished the hem with a wee ruffle. i even reused the original pocket from the shirt.


so here is my question for all of you....do you think the cincher should have been higher on the plaid shirt? or maybe no puffy elastic sleeves? i don't know what detail about this top that doesn't look right to me....what do you think?

The cashier said it was a shame I was going to harvest this "beautiful" outfit for fabric. Little did she know I was about to give the hideous cheeta print a better life.]

i hadn't dressed up for halloween in some time.....but when i heard about one of my favorite bands (shout out to all you panic fans!) was going to be playing in New Orleans, LA I knew i had to create my own costume

so i set out to the thrift store looking for inspiration......
i found a great flowly skirt & t shirt set....it still had the tags attached (score!) it was only $8.00 for the set. The cashier said it was a shame I was going to harvest this "beautiful" outfit for fabric.      Little did she know I was about to give the hideous cheeta print a better life.

with a cut, cut here and a stitch, stitch there........

the basic construction entailed pants & a tube top connected at the hip.

THe tube top part was salvaged from the T-shir....Ii created a casing above the bust for some no roll elastic....

The skirt was used to create the pants all around  the hips to create a bubble-hem-ish draping in the front I did about 6 rows of smocking/shirring.

I resued the patch style pocket from the shirt & attatched to the pants.

I even resued the shoulder pads! I simply safety pinned either pad to a deadlock on either side of my head for my ears

My tail consisted of the elastic waistband fron the skirt. It was light weight & moved easily.

My arm warmers were created from the necklines of the front & back portion of the T shirt.....It worked out well because the neckline of the T had ribbed binding....

its kinda hard to see the smocking, but its there

i was fiddling with my compost heaps & i found these lil guys helping the phabulous process along......

ENJOY!

so i just graduated from college & have really been focusing on my sewing & i wanted to share with all of you some of my organization items that rock.....
here are a few reasons why
1. i am the least organized person i know & i can actually keep up with these
2. everything u see here was either free or scavenged from random stuff around the house
3. i have not misplaced my scissors in a LONG time; what a stress reliever
4. "everything has a home".......or something

here we go.........

i was swooning over the $10 seam rippers at the store & realized i can make my mini-seam ripper i already have more ergonomic with a pencil hugger..........yay!


i needed an easy assessable area for all my my tiny patterns i make out of newsprint.......... so i took a cracker/cereal box & cut out a "V" in front & tapered the front a bit & then covered it in brown paper from a shopping bag...........yay! go recycling


i can not take credit for the next idea, i saw it here on craftster done with a yard stick (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=77989.0) .....i didn't have one of those .... SO i took a super skinny scrap from out laminate flooring en devours & did the same thing for my threads


my boyfriend took inspiration the yard stick shelf & actually improved upon the idea.  he screwed a slim piece of wood into the wall making it MUCH more durable and awesome all around.  i proceeded to used tacks & pins to hold items of inspiration and to make a 'hook" hold my thread clipping scissors above my ironing board and my bias tape maker .....the lil red bag dangling has some vintage buttons that actually match....i have a HUGE box of random buttons.....so when i find button friends i throw them in there for when i need them


 this next pic features a shelf the boyfriend installed all from stuff we found on the side of the road....(well all except the screws)......we had to extend the ol' shelf after we finished because the T.V. we found in a dumpster (that's right; a dumpster) wouldn't fit safely........may i just add the TV works most excellently & has a fancy new digital converter box & everything.........


and now........my favorite & newest improvement in my sewing hut

the scissors & remote/cell phone holsters!!! hooray!!!!!
i used tacks on the underside of the sewing machine table to secure the fabric.
seriously the best move ever! i can easily reach these items while sitting at my sewing table


phew! that was alot..........
