1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Plants vs Zombies - pic heavy on: November 10, 2010 04:37:51 PM

My 7 had the great idea of dressing as Plants vs Zombies for Halloween, as we are all huge fans of the game in this household.  http://www.popcap.com/games/free/pvz

I did a search, and saw sugarbeth's redintion from last year. Hilarious and I love the video.

For our family, I wanted to try to maintain as cartoonish a feel as possible.  t

On to pics -

Angry Jalapeno - my 4 yr old, he picked which character he wanted

Sunflower - my 17 mo old, amazingly she loved wearing the "bonnet" so it stayed on all night

Gargantuan Zombie with Mini Zombie riding in the bucket - my 7 yr, he was thrilled to have the telephone pole

The only picture of just DH and I is one from a Halloween party we attended.  He was your standard beginning zombie and I was the Pea Shooter.

3  COOKING / Dessert / Chain Chomp birthday cake on: March 14, 2010 06:15:16 PM

My son turned 7 and had a Mario Kart Double Dash themed party.  I decided to make Chain Chomp (my favorite).  I had made a cake in bowls in an attempt to make it spherical but it all fell apart.  So I ended up making a giant cake ball (cake and frosting mixed together and formed into a ball a la Bakerella)  The chain, eyes and teeth are fondant, the rest butter cream.  Wanted to share.

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / TMNT - Leonardo on: November 02, 2009 08:29:57 AM

Little Guy was set on being Leonardo.  I could have bought one at Target but what's the point - they are cheap and ugly.  Made this at home for cheaper (except the swords which were absolutely neccesary).  He loved it and got lots of compliments.  If I did it again, I would make the shell larger.

Got inspired by a post from here.  Cant find it now, and I really want to.  But here they are.

I refuse to do face makeup so I found some cheap plastic masks and sprayed them white.  Did the details free hand.  I also made my head piece and skirt.  Bought the sombrero and the rest we had.  Here in the South, not too many people knew what we were but the ones that did, loved it.  My husband thought it was the greatest and wore it all while trick or treating with the kids.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Skeleton bowling league (pic chubby) on: October 06, 2008 12:38:36 PM
I love holiday shirts but hate buying the ones in stores as every other child seems to have it.  So this year I found some cute skeleton material and decided to make my boys a couple of shirts.

I originally planned to just do it all in the skeleton fabric but the pattern seemed a bit busy to do it without breaking it up.  So I made them bowling shirts.  They aren't perfect (I tried to line up the stripe on the littler one but I failed miserably) but I am delighted with them and can't wait to take them to the pumpkin patch in them.  I figure the bigger boy can wear his to school no matter the time of year.

So here they are!

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Help finding a pattern to match this dress on: August 04, 2008 11:22:20 AM
I'm in love.
http://www.poshgirlvintage.com/1950s-black-tulle-mermaid-dress-p-204.html

My brother is getting married in a month and I want to make this for the wedding.  I don't feel confident doing the bodice without a pattern.  The skirt seems fairly straight forward.  I am having trouble finding a pattern that I can work from.

I found this http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V1043.htm??tab=vintage_vogue&page=1 but I don't like the little crossover and I am not sure I could take it out.

I also foudn this http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V2960.htm??tab=vintage_vogue&page=1 which seems fairly close but it dips too low in the back and in is too wide at the sholders, plus it has gathering at the bust, and I don't need the extra emphasis, thank you.

I would love help finding any other pattern that would work for the bust.  (I like that it seems to be on piece with darts.)  Thank you.
8  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / box pleat dress with pics on: March 09, 2008 02:29:38 PM
I've never started a posted before, but I have lurked for awhile.  I wanted to share this with you all, since you are so inspiring.

It is a dress for a friend's little girl (modeled by my younger son (as in younger than the girl), unwillingly).  I did a mock up but the little girl refused to try it on.  So I had to guess at the sizing (made the pattern myself)  I think the dress is a little wide but moves well.

c/c welcomed.
