1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Minion Carrying a Box Illusion Costume on: December 11, 2013 05:30:35 PM

I have a friend who loves minion from Despicable Me and I've also been loving these cute little yellow nuggets. He had an unique idea to make Halloween costume with illusion of a minion carrying banana box while having you in the box. I just had to be part of this!

So here are progress shots of how it was made.

You should click here to see the end result and more details how this costume was made.

The chalkboard art was used as backdrop we drew to take photo with the costume.

As you can see, I really liked the pattern Smiley

Thanks again !

Wow! it turned out adorable!! Did the pattern worked out for you? This was kind of my first time creating patterns with instruction so i was worried it won't turnout right.

I'm flattered seeing other people's work!! Can I post about this on my blog??

Thanks !! Smiley
Everything was clear to me except for the "making into an arm (with paws)" part,
so I basically continued on adding 6 more rounds to the body (decreasing 1sc on each side of the body - total of 2sc ) and then I sawed the arms regularly..

Sure you can post it on your blog, now I'm the one who's flattered Smiley
waiting for some more cute patterns Smiley !

Here is the blog I posted! =)

Wow, it looks wonderfull! Lucky birthday girl Cheesy

What technique did you use?? I'm makin some Art Nouveau drawings at the time, and I'm not sure which medium to use. I bought this comic drawing paper, 'cause I think watercolour paper sucks the ink up? And I was wondering what kind of pen you use? Just dipping with acryl ink? I first worked with a fountain pen, but the ink that I used is waterdilutable, so no good in combination with watercolours.

Hope you can help me out!
Thanks in advance:)

Hello thanks for the comment~

Answering your questions, I used drawing ink from Winsor & Newton - burnt umber. I like the combination of the drawing ink + watercolor paper because applying water on the paper with ink drawn image give interesting effect. The burnt umber ink breaks down the original colors that's been mixed in it. So it dilutes a tiny bit where a bit of yellow shows up.
If you pay attentention to my line drawing you'll see the yellow smudge. I personally like that effect so I take advantage of that.
And yes, I did use fountain pen to draw this. It doesn't suck up the ink, actually it's better to use ink on watercolor paper because the ink absorbs into the paper A LOT faster than any other paper so you never have the problem smudging the undried ink accidently.

Hope that helped =)
