1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / bodice lining help on: May 10, 2010 07:28:04 AM
Huh I am about to attempt to sew McCall's 5838 it's a girl's dress in view A. The requirements for the fabric call for 1 1/2 yds for a 45" and 1 1/4 yds for 60" plus 1/2 yd for contrast. I have 2 yds of a melon colored gingham and no contrast. I was hoping to be able to do the contrast pieces or the other ones on the bias and the other going the right way. Since I do not have extra fabric I am trying to be conservative with what I do have.

The pattern says it is a self lining bodice. It has a bodice front, and two front stays. The directions have you attach one bodice front to one front stay, than it says to reserve the other stay for lining, which gets attached later. Does this mean once everything is finished the bodice front is the piece that shows when worn, the one stay is in the middle, and the lining is on the inside? Does this mean I can use other plain white fabric for the two stay pieces with out it showing? Thank you for your help, I know this post is kind of long, and hopefully not too confusing!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / long tail cast on ??? on: October 27, 2008 10:39:14 AM
I've looked over the FAQ's so forvige me if I missed it, but when doing long-tail cast on the very first cast on the needle looks like 2 loops. Is it two that just got casted on or one that looks like two? Does this make sense?
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My first sewing project for myself!! on: July 18, 2008 01:44:19 PM
So I was really bummed out, I just got layed off from my most favorite job ever. My boss cried while laying me off, so I couldn't be mad, I can't be sad and mope around for weeks, so I'll craft!!!! I really wanted a pretty checkbook cover instead of the standard old blue plasticy cover. I want to look cute while keeping up with my finances! So my sister found me an excellent tute and bought me a yard of the most wonderful fabric ever! She'll save the day!!! So here it is, my second sewing project ever. I'm very happy how it turned out!!

Here is the ugly old blue one I sewed into the middle:

The fabric my sis bought me.
The plaid was an old shirt I don't wear.

Almost there!!!

Yeah I did it!!! Thanks to the materials and support from my sis. I'm much more cheerful now!!!!  Grin

Here's a link to the wonderful tutorial...

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / my daughter's request... on: February 05, 2008 03:39:48 PM
Okay my lil 4 yo girl is sooo excited about me learning to crochet. She really wanted a rug for her doll ( Huh?? )so I gave her my oops strip of work that I very first did ( I thought I was doing single crochet but was skipping a step and doing a slip stitch-oops) she loved it! She really wants a hat. I would love to make one but I don't know where to start. I kinda have internet overload doing a google search. Can anyone suggest a really easy beanie hat pattern that would fit a 4 yo little girl? Or is it just general sizing keep going around till it fits kinda deal? I know single crochet and I just tried double. Do I need to just go around a spiral? and how would I start that?

Phew thanks in advance for the help. I'm sure you guys might start to get tired of all my questions!! Tongue
8  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / right way vs wrong way??? on: February 05, 2008 12:17:01 PM
So I'm attempting an amigurumi guy and the head is almost finished. Does it matter which is the right way out? and was I supposed to crochet through both loops instead of just the back one? I think my head looks a little pointy on top???
9  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / looking for amigurumi tut... on: February 01, 2008 01:50:00 PM
I have seen somewhere this amigurumi apple that opens up and has a cute lil green wormy inside. Does anyone know how to make them or know a link to some instructions? Also if you do, how hard is this? I'm so new to crocheting. I know single crochet and a slip stich. The slip stich was by accident b/c I was doing that thinking it was a single-oops!  Tongue But any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
