5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Akrivestery Gothic Overdress on: August 19, 2010 02:04:11 AM
So a few months ago, while my darn serger was in the shoppe for the 2nd time (the thing has given me nothing but problems), i decided if I couldn't make anything for etsy, I'd make myself something nice. So I looked through my stockpile of patterns, and chose the Gothic Overdress pattern Simplicity's Akrivestery line 2757. I made it out of this cotton twill I've had in my stash forever. I didn't do the lacing, but opted for a separating zipper instead, and because the length of the zipper was a few inches longer than the end of the pattern bodice, I elongated the bodice. I also didn't hem it, but waited until i got my serger back and serged it for a more raw look. The bodice also took alot of fitting because all the big commercial pattern companies work alot of ease into their patterns. I forgot why I don't use them.
Anyway, without further adieu, the pictures!

When I get an action shot, I'll post it, It looks alot better on me than one my twig of a mannequin.
And of course I where a skirt underneath, for modesty's sake.

PS. is the chick in green your friend??  She opted to wear that instead??

Wow.  There are no words

Yes that is my friend. That is her style and I wouldn't begrudge her if she didn't not wear the dress she asked me to make for her.

Your dress looks awesome and I gave you a "THIS ROCKS"! I have no doubt your friend feels bad about not wearing hers! You have great skills and especially since you used period patterns. They are not the easiest to work with (having done my share). Great work!

Hehe thanks for the "THIS ROCKS"! She does feel terrible. And its fit perfectly to her, which is why I am most reluctant to sell it. I want her to wear it, but I also want to be paid for the work I put into it.

What can I say, it does make me unbelievably happy to read all the nice things everyone has said, and I thank each and every one of you for those words. It really sucks when someone asks you to take time off your other work, and make something, for barely any compensation (she bought the fabric, and a quite expensive parasol as a sorry gift) and end up not wanting it. I know she's sorry, but it was still hard, and I could have been up to no good with other sewing projects.
I did email you lady lin, I hope you got it. My email has been acting up lately.
Again thanks so much everyone for the support. It means so much to me.

Haha thanks guys, I'm going to have a talk with her and tell her that if she can't come up witht the money by next batsday in 9 months, I'm going to have to sell it. I think I'm being more than fair with those demands. I'll let you guys know what goes on with it! Thanks for all the kind words!
