1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Help With Business Name on: September 01, 2005 10:51:10 PM
I really want "twenty studio" to be my business name but sadly it's taken  Cry  .  i'm hoping to get some suggestions on another name or a variation of that name.

The reference to "twenty studio" is the amount of time (20 minutes) I spend on my painting/sewing/drawing/designing a day.  You see, I share my studio with my 3 year old son who loves to paint like mommy.  He paints/draws with me for 20 minutes and after 20 minutes he wants to do something different like dance or sing.  It's a way for me to continue with my art while spending time with my son.

I will be selling my paintings (abstract paintings and paintings for kids' rooms), mommy calling cards that I've designed, handmade calling card holders, clutches, and a few softies.

Please give me some ideas - I'm just so stuck on "twenty studio" I need help.

Thanks!

LostCove,
Thanks again for all the suggestions.  I think I'll try putting plastic canvas on the bottom of my bag and see how that goes and try using some stiff felt as an additional layer to keep the bag sturdy.

I haven't seen plastic canvas in my local Wal-Mart, JoAnns, and Hancock Fabric Stores.  I might check at Michael's......Hobby Lobby ...is that an actual store or an online store (never heard of it).

Beaucoup thanks again!

MariaVA ... try using the heaviest interfacing... it's about $4.00 or $4.50 at Wal-mart... then use a denim needle...  Wink

LostCove,

Thanks for the advice!  I'll try that.

LostCove,

That is a lot of layers to sew through!  What kind of needle do you use to machine sew through all those layers?

Where can I find plastic canvas here in the U.S.?  cheap?  I've bought buckram for $2.07/yard at 18" wide at Hancock Fabrics.....are there other places where it's cheaper?

Great advice on using plastic canvas as a "skeleton!"  Thanks!

laurajean,
no i haven't tried putting anything on the bottom.  i will try putting buckram wrapped in my lining fabric and see if that's work.  chip board sounds like a great idea because it's sturdy, but i want my bag to be washable.

thanks for the advice!

Buckram anyone?

booglass,
i've tried buckram with my bags - my layers go like this:  outer, buckram, light weight interfacing, then the lining.  but once i put all my stuff - cell phone, wallet, checkbook - and carry the bag on my shoulder, the bag starts to sag and loose its "bucket looking shape."

does this mean i need to add more layers???

if you want magnetic snaps now, wal-mart carries them, but i don't know how good or sturdy they are.  hancock fabrics has magnetic snaps too.
