1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / baby hats for hospitals? on: January 25, 2007 08:08:45 AM
I have quite a large amount of acrylic yarn and I don't know what to do with it. I was thinking that I could make some baby hats and donate them to the hospital. What I was wondering is... do the hats need to be all cotton, or is acrylic ok?

2  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Quilt Challenge #1 - Baby Size Giant Finger Hand on: January 16, 2007 12:49:45 PM
O.K... so since there can be two entries in this challenge and I needed some practice quilting, I thought I would do a practice project. So here it is. My daughter has this habit of waving her hand in the air when she is feeding and it looks like she is pointing and saying "I'm number one" so my husband and I decided that she needed one of those big foam fingers that you get at the baseball games... so I decided to make one instead.  This isn't practical at all, its to entertain my husband and I... for shear laughter

Sorry for all the photos. The hand is 8"x4.5" . Both sides are quilted. The front has only quilting done around the hand, but I did some free hand quilting on the back. Its not that nice cause it was my first time doing it ever. The outline of the hand is actually painted on using glittery red fabric pen.

OK... here are the picks.

hope you get  a bit of a chuckle out of it like I do.
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Can You Help Me Learn To Crochet? on: January 11, 2007 02:30:10 AM
Give me a bag, and I can pretty much break it down and tell you how its made... but when it comes to crocheting... I'm hopeless, or at least that's how it feels to me. Am I the only one who can't wrap their head around how it works, and how the stitches are made.

I REALLY want to learn how to crochet! I'm not sure if I just can't do it cause I want it so badly... do you have any tips or know any websites that could help me? I have a booklet from the seventies, the happy hooker and numerous other crochet books and magazines that I have tried to learn from. I have also had my mother and my MIL try to help me. DO you think I will ever learn or should I just give up Huh

If you think you can help me... please try as I still really want to learn.

thanks

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Painting on Vinyl or Leather Bags? on: January 11, 2007 02:18:41 AM
I would like my husband to paint cherry blossoms on a old vinyl bag I have, but I'm not sure what kind of paint he should use or what to seal it with.  Would I use Acrylic paint, if so, what kind. What is the best type of sealer to use so that it doesn't crack or chip and how many coats would you use.  Any tips would be appreciated.

thanks

5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Stud Earrings? on: January 10, 2007 06:10:43 PM
I have a whole bunch of stud earrings which I don't want to throw out, but I won't wear them.  What can I do with them???
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Wendy The Wiener Clutch on: January 05, 2007 09:22:43 AM
WOW...Wendy was way way more difficult to make then I thought. But I think it turned out ok considering this is the second time I have made anything with a zipper. It took 3 hours... Most of that was spent trying to turn the thing right side out... wow, next time I will definitely make the legs fatter and the tail not so thin (thats why it looks like a stub)

It is made out of a nice soft upholstery fabric and is lined with fleece interfacing. The underside of the ears is lined with the same pretty amy butler fabric that is inside. It closes with a zipper . It is 15.5" from nose to tip of tail.

The whole thing.

a so you can get an idea of how big she is... my Sophia likes Wendy so far!

Hope you like it...now what the heck do I do with a wiener clutch... I think I'll save it for Sophia when she's older.

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / What's in a perfect bag? on: November 19, 2006 07:27:06 AM
Hiya,
I'm looking to sell more of my bags on etsy... but I'm wondering what people want in a bag? I like cute handbags, but I'm not sure if that's what others want since most of the bags I have sold on etsy are larger ones.

So ... could you let me know what is important to you when purchasing a bag...and what is the deciding factor in purchasing a bag online.

Thanks.
