21  Re: 2010 12" Squares CAL- January in Crochetalongs by Selnith on: January 27, 2010 02:32:42 AM
well, i have the job, more hours than i thought, will be working for 2 months which means i'll deffo be able to buy more yarn, but the hours aren't too much so i'll be able to keep up with my therapy crochet
oh and a photo of my work so far

the loose bit is going to be a castle end square, had to frog a fair portion of last night's work though, crochet in the dark is a bad idea, i missed quite a few stitches

23  Yo Yo Baby-ghan in Crochet: Completed Projects by Selnith on: December 10, 2009 06:44:25 AM
i've been working on this blanket since the beginning of summer (various things happened to delay the work) but now it's done
a nice, even 30inches across
it's cream, with a slight pearly-ness, really soft and machine washable

the blanket

a closer shot of my lovely yo-yos

gonna ask mam to weave the ends in for me cause i'm useless at it, they always come out again, then all it needs it to be tied with a pretty blue ribbon and it'll be ready for Thomas' arrival

please please please tell me what you think

24  Re: Show me your Christmsa tree! in Winter Holidays by Selnith on: December 09, 2009 01:14:36 PM

This year's tree, it's plastic Sad but last years live one got dessicated, poor tree, and the plastic one was cheap, going to get a nice one in the sales
so anyhow, theme is gold, was going to be gold and black (i thought it would look swish) but the black decorations just disappeared and you could barely see them so they came off in favour of more gold ones
it needs more tinsel so my boyfriend is going to pick some up tomorrow, but till then it looks ok

My brother gave me this one for my tree last year, it's pretty and it fits the theme so YAY, and it's the first nice decoration of my own, well, i have others that have been gathered over the years, but they're still at my parents', mam won't part with them yet and this is only my second year of having my own tree to decorate. Some day i shall rescue my DisneyLand decorations and my waterford crystal decoration and such like

Pretty sparkly snowflake i was given last year as part of my christmas present from a friend, so it's making it's first appearance on the tree
and a felt robin, also making his first appearance, i bought him in the sales last year as it's my belief that all christmas trees should have at least one robin, mostly as at my parents' house there are 2 oooooold robins (came from dad's parents i think) with actual feathers and wires for feet so they look like real robins perched in your tree, my brother and i got to put one on the tree each, each year

25  Re: How to Create "Alligator" Tie-Dye? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by Selnith on: November 10, 2009 07:52:37 AM
the vertical white bits are almost certainly where the fabric was on the inside
does that make sense?
i'll try with a picture

as you scrunch the fabric some gets burried under folds of fabric and therefore takes less/no dye

and i made my mask, plaster of paris and 6? coats of silver poster paint (mam and i made my cloak about 7, maybe a little more, years ago)
so

if possible i'll get a better pic of my mask later

28  21st Birthday Gir in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Selnith on: April 26, 2009 02:08:05 PM
one of my best friends (who is like a brother to me, and we frequently refer to eachother as siblings) turned 21 today
we (boyfriend and i) got him a ticket to go see a musical with us in june which was his main pressie but as it's his 21st i wanted to give him something tangable that he can keep
so as we both rather like invader zim and especially Gir i made him one
on to the photos
the whole lot

Gir with his hood up

his piggy

and as it's his 21st a key

i used AprilDraven's pattern as a base for Gir, but altered some of it, and ignored other bits so i could do my own thing and make it fit my needs, for his hood i just winged it, made a sc granny square then when it was big enough just sc-ed in each to get the drop, for the cut back just went halfway and turned, then to connect it up again i chained to get the size i wanted then decreased from there till i got the collar size
nothing complicated really
the key was totally winged, some sc in a loop then chain and some basic tunisian, nothing complicated (she says like she's totally conversant, yea right)
the pig is a RomanSock pattern (the pass the pigs pattern) altered a little to try and save time and make the pig look more like Piggy
so yea, i'm really proud of it, the friends i've shown are really impressed and the Birthday Boy LOVES it, so overall i think it's a winner

29  Body Butter in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by Selnith on: April 17, 2009 09:30:34 AM
so i've had a bath and beauty afternoon
i tried making bath bombs and i think they were a little less than successfull so i'm not making a post about them (they're really soft, they fizz well when they go into water but they are REALLY soft, need help there i think)

anyhow, the body butter, i haven't taken pics as it's fairly standard looking however it is really Really nice

ingredients
125g cocoa butter
25g shea butter
200ml sunflower oil
essential oils to scent

destructions
melt the base oils and mix together
leave to cool or put in the fridge, i put mine in the fridge because it's warm in here and i'm impatient
keep an eye on it, when it starts to set around the edges take it out and viciously assault it with a whisk
now is the time to add you EOs (or FOs or whatever)
beat some more
put it back in the fridge
after 5-10 mins it should be completely cooled and set
take it out and beat again till you have a smooth creamy-lotiony consistency
then it's ready, put into pots/jars and you're done

ok, i found my camera so have some photos

i hope you can see how smooth and lovely it is
the tubs are just some cheap ones i got from the shop today, 10 for 1, i couldn't say no
there's about 50g of body butter in each one
Enjoy

30  Re: Cthulhu's World Take over **UDATED** Oct 6 in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Selnith on: October 06, 2008 02:55:53 AM
Part 3

Last week Cthulhu realised the this world was a very serious place, and where's the fun in ruling a serious and boring world.  So he called home for a friend to come and help, and who better to lighten up this world than the Prince of Clowns.

The Joker snuck onto the internet and started searching for a suitable home.  He found someone on a forum, who went by the name of Hojo, and named him his mark.

As a Prince he deemed himself worthy of better transport conditions than Mr Skellington and so climbed into a handy RuckSack.

he arrived at his destination and started seeking his mark. Not here.

Or here.

Chocolate, biscuits and crisps, but no mark.

This guy didn't seem right either.

Mr Skellington's friend and host was definately not the mark.

and suddenly there he was, the mark, it must be, he started Squeeing as soon as he saw the Joker

There was much 'happy dancing',

and much love.
