11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / From Pants to Skirt. on: December 10, 2009 02:32:23 PM
Years ago I found a pair of pants that I thought were adorable. Black denim but with black and red lace details. So what did I do? Purchased them, of course!

But that's not the end of the story. I wore them on a pretty regular basis, so eventually the fabric frayed and holes developed. So sad. They were still too pretty to throw away, so I made a skirt with legwarmers to match!

Not the most clever of creations, I'll admit, but a good use of a pair of pants that were in no condition to be worn. Now it has plenty of days left ahead!

Please ignore the lens flare in the pictures. It's hard enough to race in front of the camera after hitting the timer, much less check the angle and lighting!

I didn't think to take notes while making these to later write a tutorial with, but I'm sure there are people on Craftster who have done the same thing.

They look professionally done! Great job!
13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: I am a bad, bad sewer. on: September 29, 2009 08:30:11 PM
Oh my, I have been there! Don't worry. The phrase 'practice makes perfect' is too, too true. You have to accept and learn from your mistakes and take it slow.
I know a lot of patterns are graded from 'easy' to 'difficult', so even if a pattern seems advanced, look for keywords like that. Searching for pattern reviews can give you a huge amount of insight. If you would rather stick to free patterns you can find online, 'lolita' skirts made from a rectangle of fabric and a bit of elastic is incredibly simple. An easy purse or other accessory might be a fun project too.
I hope that helps! I have been sewing off and on my entire life and only realized two years ago that it was what I really love to do. And while I'm constantly churning out items, so far there has been an error or silly mistake with each one. It happens!
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Warm winter pea coat WITHOUT wool! Fabric suggestions? on: September 26, 2009 07:35:29 PM
I'm in the same boat. I am making a winter coat out of velboa but don't know what to line it with so that it's thick and cozy for the cold snowy days. Anyway, denim or twill would be a good choice. Only downside is they're not hydrophobic, but they are warm and made of natural fibers.

Thank you for the tutorial. The design on the shirt is awesome!
16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Lotus Dress (img heavy) on: September 20, 2009 02:20:21 PM
The material that you used for the dress is fantastic. And the lotus brings it to any entirely different level! Very cool stuff.
17  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Running contest to get crafty blog traffic? on: June 24, 2009 06:53:08 PM
I'm very curious as well. Would a drawing or contest bring actual customers or just those interested in a freebie? It's something I've thought about but am hesitant to do.
18  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Question for Sellers- Feedback? on: June 24, 2009 06:36:13 PM
I have only purchased on Etsy, not sold, but soon enough I'll take that leap. So here's a question for those who have.

When do you leave feedback? Do you write about your experience with the purchaser as soon as you receive payment, when you send out the item, or when the package is delivered? What's your personal experience?

I would like to use proper etiquette but I don't know what it is! Everyone likes getting feedback (positive, that is). When do you list others?

Incredibly clever. I think that's adorable!

How creative are those outfits? And warm, I bet!
