1  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Australian Anzac Biscuits ( thats Cookies for the American folks ) on: September 11, 2011 11:24:45 PM
Golden Syrup is (IMHO) somewhere between honey and treacle. Treacle is a bit like molasses- but by the time you get to molasses you have a lot more bitter flavour characteristics so maybe a blend of honey & treacle/molasses would work?

I would recommend adding the water as boiling water- will help the bicarb 'fizz' up which will help aerate the bikkies. I make these all the time and sometimes trade out the butter for a dairy free marg to make a vegan version which goes down a treat too. They burn quickly so don't wander away too far!

Chickens are awesome!
If you replicated your covered vege garden, with the chicken housing in the middle, you would end up with an awesome set up. After harvest, you let the chooks live in side A eating the remainder of the plants, turning over and fertilising the soil. At this point you plant in side B (that the chooks have been living in) and let flourish. Does that make any sense? You need a temporary fence that keeps the chooks in the right side at the right time, but with the house in the middle you need not move the house.

Spoiler alert****

Took me a little while too to find 'enjoy life'. The 'fe' combination appeared firstwhich helped me find 'life' and then looking above the 'oy' popped ou tand for a little while I thought it said 'joy life' which while cute was a little cryptic  Tongue

5  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Does homemade jelly save you money? Who cares! Its delicious. on: August 19, 2010 05:35:15 AM
Save your jars for next time and the cost for that batch will drop about 50%, yay!
The jelly we Aussies eat with icecream is a gelatine set dessert- your jello. (tricky huh?!)
6  COOKING / Dessert / Re: honey-mint cupcakes with honey-cream cheese frosting. on: July 31, 2010 05:47:24 AM
It's quite a large recipe, would easy make 3 dozen or do cupcakes I'm estimating, so I don't think the butter is excessive.
A stick is approx 125 gms so the recipe has 250 gms according to my calcs.

Your Mum is obviously very proud of your talents but maybe doesn't quite realise how much time and money goes in to them. Maybe you could casually drop in to the conversation when your Mum says 'oh they loved it' that you 'certainly hope so seeing as how there was near $40 worth of fondant in there'...plus ingredients...plus your time...
Great job though!

I've used teas in cakes before but always brewed as a liquid, never the leaves. I will be trying this one for sure, thanks!
