2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / McQueen and Mater on: November 02, 2011 06:24:26 PM
So, we haven't really done Halloween before because my son has a peanut allergy (he's almost 4) and it's hard to explain to him that he can't have about 60% of the candy he collects. This year I wasn't planning anything until my friend texted me that her little boy requested that my son go trick or treating with him at his grandparents house. Panic mode set in, I ask my son what he wants to be and he comes out with "Lightning Queen". Ok... I have 4 days, and a daughter I must costume as well. So, she'll be Mater. I invested approx. $10 in spray paint, and everything else was on hand. Mostly cardboard boxes and kraft paper, and they had straps to go over their shoulders. Those four days were spent staring at my sons matchbox versions of the cars for way too long.

Final product is.......

And Action Shots.....

It was an exhausting process of shaping cardboard, then covering, then painting. I got the Rusteze logo and the other sponsors on Lightning McQueen from the internet. The lightning bolt and "95" were cut out of yellow posterboard and the gradient was spray painted. Mater's towing cable supports were made from a curtain rod that my kids tore down last week (what timing?) and he even had a wire hook.

3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Modest Barbie Clothes on: April 21, 2011 08:12:32 AM
Awesome idea, and they look fab. My daughter isn't into Barbie yet (she's only 20 months) but this makes me glad I have almost my entire Barbie stash from the late 80's/early 90's. I don't remember the clothes being as skimpy then. The sad thing is that lots of parents dress their pre-teens this way too though. CNN just had an article about that a couple days ago.
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Engaged and now planning a red/black wedding of nerdy goodness!! on: April 04, 2011 06:16:10 AM
Your inspiration so far looks great. We were able to have our wedding for about $2000 in 2004 and it was pretty good for the budget. I really like that location for the ceremony too, but it said that you can't have blankets or chairs in the grass on their rules page Sad If you are planning a short ceremony, people can just stand around (unless it's going to be a lot of people). I think that I'd prefer standing to sitting on concrete.

6  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Re: Animal cell model, pic heavy on: December 27, 2010 06:32:15 PM
That is awesome. I had to do this in I guess 10th grade, and I used several different sizes and shapes of beads for each organelle. Wish I knew more about clay then.
