11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Showgirl on: April 16, 2008 04:32:17 PM
Okay so, we are having a 1920's vegas party on Saturday. And I am planning on being a showgirl. I had my outfit planned out with wearing a mirror sequin mini dress but I just tried it on and it wont go over my boobs... thats a problem. So now I'm trying to make a showgirl costume very quickly and for not a lot of cash!

I have a forest green corset with champagne/goldish stitching, but the zipper comes apart (it was $1 cos it was damaged and it fits wonderfully so I got it anyways) but any ideas on how to fix that?
Pictures:

I was thinking I could wear it with a pair of hotshorts but I dont know what color to get or even how to start to make them!

Should I try doing something like that?
Or does anyone know of any patterns for a costume like that?

And the headdress... any clues how to even start? I might end up just renting one from a local costume shop!

Any help would completely rock!
12  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / College Graduate on: April 14, 2008 03:40:52 PM
Ok so my boyfriend graduates college as a digital artist on May 3rd. I am completely stumped as to what to get him! The only thing I have thought of is an engraved diploma holder, but I'm not sure on that one yet! Or a Kia tag for his car.
I'd like to make him something very meaningful too. We have been dating for 5 years so I dont mind at all to make him something amazingly mushy gushy!
Um he is really into cars, computers, but I have no clue what I'm looking for in either of those fields. He's also really into movies but he has every movie you could imagine!
He isnt sure if he is going straight into the work force or if he is going to graduate school first.

I am clueless on it! Any ideas for you awesome people?
13  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Discovery Channel swap on: April 07, 2008 06:14:20 PM
As I'm sitting here debating on buying a shirt from Cafepress I thought why not mention a swap devoted to everything discovery. You could do things based on your partners favorite show(s). Just an idea! If anyone would want to organize it that would rock! If not I might once I have been here a little longer!

Would anyone be interesting in participating?
14  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Guitar Hero pillow on: March 10, 2008 08:29:23 PM
Okay so this is my 2nd sewing project ever... the first one... well... it kinda turned out horrible.
But this one I am pretty happy with! Minus the part I had to hand sew. I havent done that in since I was like 8... so like 13 years.
Anyways, I traced the guitar for the pattern. The neck needs a bit more stuffing so I'll try to add more to it soon. But anyways here it is:

15  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Sewing machine hates me... on: March 09, 2008 03:56:01 PM
My sewing machine hates me. And not a little hate, but HATES me...
I just got it, it was my grandmothers and its a 1979 Kenmore... not my first choice but it was free. And since I have never used one I figured it would be good to learn on. But its about to go in the middle of the nearest river.
The problems:
The foot is weird. Its like the needle isnt sitting in the middle. Its like the vibrations from the machine knock it loose and then the foot moves a millimeter and the needle snaps in half. I have tried taking it off and putting it back on but it didnt help. The needle is still sitting right on the edge of the foot. I have the needle threaded right, but it is like it wont pick up the bobbin thread. We had it working yesterday, about long enough to sew one seam, and then the needle snapped thanks to that stupid foot. And then I get the new needle put in, curse a few time, get the needle re threaded and then it wont pick up the thread again. I am really out of ideas with the darn thing and just want to sell it and go buy a new one.
Any help from anyone would be completely awesome...
16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Interfacing on: March 07, 2008 04:17:19 PM
Ok so I just started sewing... wait no I am ABOUT to start sewing... and I got a pattern for a cute purse and cheap fabric from walmart. Its an "Its Sew Easy" pattern. I figured it had to be easy with a name like that...
But what the heck is interfacing?! Do I really need it?
I wanted to make the purse with this striped fabric on the outside and this turquoise coach knock off as the lining. Yea I need help! LOL This isnt off to a good start is it?
17  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / I have discovered Shrinky Dink! on: February 17, 2008 12:39:06 PM
Okay so this site opened my eyes to shrinky dink! I had never used it before! So I bought some and just started using it last night! I'm going to file down some of the edges and they are going to be keychains and a few necklaces!
But our stuff keeps curling up. Any help with that? We are using a toaster oven (thats all we have currently) with a brown bag on a cookie sheet to bake them. Anyways here are some of my creations!
(sorry for the blurry photos!)

I just love this one!

This is actually a design that I want for a tattoo I just need to get it!

This one turned out pretty good too!

A very small charm

A keychain for my boyfriend. We attempted printing on the paper. It turned out okay, but I wish it would have been lighter!

Anyways, what do you think? Any pointers?
18  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Pirates Vs Ninjas on: February 16, 2008 05:58:48 PM
Yes that it my party theme! Its my 21st birthday!
Now I just need some help! LOL!
So my idea so far is have the Kitchen Ninja-ized and the living room can be Piratey.
I want to have flag shaped cookies and they can be decorated for both sides.
Sandwiches cut and assembled like throwing stars.
Rum or grog and Sake hopefully.
Everyone must come dressed as their fave side!
I was trying to think of some sort of favors for people.
And I need some ideas coming up with decorations and some more foods!
Any help would rock!

Also I'm kinda on a small budget... Angry

And my bday is March 2nd but I dont know when the party will be yet. Maybe the 7th?
19  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / 21st birthday theme on: January 20, 2008 07:14:40 AM
So my 21st birthday is March 2nd. I really want to start planning my party now! I'm actually doing 2 parties. For my actual birthday (sunday) we are going to a local club and dancing and having fun. But then I want to have a bigger 2nd party, most likely at my house. Last year for my theme I had "Welcome to Hollywood" (I'll make a post with some details from it later!) and everyone dressed up and it was great! I want another theme, but I'm not real sure what. I dont want it to be totally alcohol related  because a lot of my friends are under 21 so we need activities for everyone.
So far the only ideas I have are:
Internet People (everyone dress up as their fave internet "celeb")
Video game party
something formal, but that might be out no matter what.

I dunno, I want it to be lots of fun, but I'm not sure. I would love the excuse to get dressed up all fancy, but I know that not all my friends feel the same! If you have any ideas let me know! I want it to be something very very unusual so no normal luau or 50's party or anything! Thanks guys!
20  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Margaritaville Party... only a few pics! on: January 19, 2008 09:07:56 AM
Just thought I would share some of the pictures from this party to inspire everyone!
My boyfriend turned 21 and we decided to throw him a jimmy buffet themed surprise party. (ALL of my parties have themes...)
For decorations we bought a bunch of beachy things, made palm trees and posters. And also used beach chairs and towels.
As party favors we went and bought a bunch of those plastic margarita glasses and painted each one differently. The reason we did this besides being pretty were we had both people over 21, and that way everyone could tell their drinks apart and know what was in it!
We made him a beach comber hat that said happy 21st which he wore the entire night!
And of course we had lots and lots of frozen margaritas!
And a lost shaker of salt cake with both normal candles and trick ones!
Overall it was a blast and turned out great!
Anyways, here are a few pics!

Lighting the cake

The bday hat (me and the bday boy!)

There ya go! I hope you liked it!
If you want to know anything else about the party just send me a PM and I will help as much as possible!
