21  Re: Embroidery Hoopla R4, Diptych Round - Gallery (SendOut 3/21/11) in The Swap Gallery by pugwash on: April 08, 2011 07:06:19 PM
My partner has received but won't be able to post photos until her parents bring the package to her school. She listed the Wizard of Oz in her interests and the idea was immediate. I had wanted to do a clock and thought that the diptych round would be just perfect for that. Not only do the hoops work well in the theme, but they can stand alone or in other groupings(depending on how her room is arranged).

First is the Tin Man himself.  Just a simple bust with some crayon tinting to add depth. I used a fun fabric that reminded me of the yellow brick road, and an old, worn, metal hoop that resembled aged tin. Maybe I should have made my second hoop an oil can!

This clock was tough. I had the general idea down, but the numbers gave me trouble. Stitching the numerals didn't work because it was too hard to read. Using a marker didn't work because the writing blurred on the felt. I decided just to print out the numbers and glue them onto the fabric. It's not the exact look that I wanted, but it worked for the project. I took an image of the back just to prove it's a real working clock. Most of the stitching is blanket stitch, and the heart is stuffed for that 3D effect.

22  Re: Embroidery Hoopla R4 - Diptych Round!! (SU 1/28/11 - 2/12/11, SO 3/21/11) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by pugwash on: February 03, 2011 01:59:42 AM
My part of Wisconsin got nailed. The snow's higher than the bumper of my car, and the people my landlord highers are no where to be seen. I won't be going anywhere for a while. I just hope they show up and clear the parking lot sometime before tomorrow (they seem to take 2-3 days to show up), but even if they do, the city street isn't cleared either. Yay!

I wonder if you live by me :p  The guys never came by yesterday or today to clear sidewalks, and we were one of the few lots that was sort of cleared out. Instead of stitching like I had wanted, I helped the boyfriend dig out our front door from a 6' snowdrift. My truck was completely buried and took an hour to dig out but I'm still stuck!

This was taken after shoveling from the inside out through a 4' drift. You can sort of see where a neighbor girl had climbed up so she could sled down from our door  Cry

From MarieC I have a 4" hoop with my bunny Debbie in some Victorian era clothing. I like how the varying length of stitching looks like fur! It's done on a soft velvet(or feels like) fabric, which is just how Debbie feels. She's a soft mini Rex.

From IamSusie I have a cross stitch of Mario! I love the Mario brothers and will have to make a Luigi now to match Wink He's in a tiny 3" hoop.

I looove both hoops and they are already up on display with my others.

My partner, tlh878, hasn't been online for a few days, so I'm going to post a photo of the hoop I sent her. It was based off of an art piece that  I found online. She had some tree themed items on her wist, so I figured this would be a great piece to make for her. There are four shades of brown and green in there to give it a little more "pop".

Prepare to be jealous!

I received my hoop from tlh878 today and it is awesome.  Space invaders is one of my favorite games(just behind Galaga), but how did she know? Magic. That's how. But, not only had she stitched up some sweet little sprites, but they are decked out for Christmas! And even though I'm not the biggest fan of bright colors, tlh878 was right that the brighter color worked best with this theme. So behold the hoop that now graces my collection:

The back was finished off quite nicely as well but the flash kept washing it out.

I love the lab rat, it's too cute. I also received from canamharris today and am completely pleased! She stitched up a koi on some very appropriately patterned fabric. Just look!

And the back is finished off much better than what I did for her  Cheesy

The little tag with a note is so pretty, and I've left it hanging on the back so I'll always remember who sent that hoop. There was also candy sample, but it was eaten before I took a photo. Thank you so much for the awesome hoop!

27  Tattoo inspired embroidery in Needlework: Completed Projects by pugwash on: September 30, 2010 01:10:33 AM
A forum member, lizzypazzy, made a post the other day and I really loved her tattoo. So in an effort to keep up on practicing my stitches, I loosely re-created the tattoo into a simple embroidery to add to my hoopla wall. I'm not entirely happy with the balloon, but I've left the back unfinished until I decide if I want to re-do it. I think I'm leaning towards keeping it, despite the imperfection, because I enjoy the sort of free-handed sketch look.

My lines may not be perfect but I'm quite pleased with her delightfully blas  face

This is just crazy. I was thinking to myself this morning after seeing the monarch hoop, that I would love to try my hand at some more advanced filling stitches, but rather on a luna moth. WELL, muddy21 has been such an awesome partner and saved me the work Smiley She took inspiration from my wist and created this awesome piece. The gold body and all the black outlining is embroidered, and the fabric choices really pop from my wall.

She finished off the back with the scientific name and her info. I blurred out the signature muddy, but I figured it was ok to leave in the location. (let me know if you want it removed)

I really love it, and it's the perfect jumping off point for my hoopla wall.

29  Re: Help Me Lose Weight Swap Round 2 Gallery (SO 8/14/2010) in The Swap Gallery by pugwash on: September 07, 2010 06:51:04 PM
Well, my partner never posted photos so I will put them up. Sorry the color is a little off in these, my good camera was loaned to my parents. I themed the crafts for amusedcreations around the importance of water.

First up is crocheted water bottle slings, I made two. The green and blue one is reclaimed cotton yarn with a longer strap to wear across her body, or tied for just a shoulder carry. The white one is for her or her husband to use and is just a shoulder sling. It's made from dozens and dozens of plastic shipping bags that I cut up into strips and strung together to make a large ball of "plarn". It took a long time to make, but it's strong, eco-friendly and lightweight.

Next is a refashioned doggie bag holder. A plain black holder is just boring! I jazzed it up with some leftover fabric, and now it looks fab(if you ask me Wink )

She wanted a bracelet to help track water inake, so I tried my hand at making some jewelry. I used 8 jade beads to reference glasses of water, and there is a charm that can be moved past each bead as she consumes the recommended glasses of water. There are coordinating smaller beads around the bracelet as well.

Last, I made a shopping book.  I decorated a small notebook with paper, ribbon, a friendly reminder to eat fit  and an embroidered strawberry. The cover is decoupaged, and I didn't get a photo of the inside where I added a pocket to hold coupons or notes.

As extras I purchased some reusable water bottles, dog waste bags and a collapsible bowl for her dogs for when they go hiking.

I got a package in the mail today!

Only one of my photos turned out Sad

First up is a gym bag. This is certainly large enough to fit all my current gear, plus spare shoes come winter. The fabric is clearly awesome and there is a pocket inside to stash my ipod. It was constantly lost in my other gym bag.

She also made a goal book. My camera kept insisting on flash so the contents didn't show up, but inside are pages to chart my weight, measurements, monthly goals and more. There is also  a water bottle, which I needed, a little booklet of her favorite recipes, and a hand sewn gym towel.

Thank you so much amusedcreations. I can't wait to put it all to use!
