261  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Has anyone tried stiffening their work with hairspray? on: January 18, 2008 08:24:50 PM
Yep, okay.

I ended up using a smaller hook anyway.
262  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Has anyone tried stiffening their work with hairspray? on: January 18, 2008 04:32:21 AM
Because, I'm a bit scared to try.

I've started knitting this hat in 100%acrylic 12-ply and I should've used a smaller hook size. The thing's a bit floppy.

So, basically, will my hat melt if I spray it with hairspray? And, should I steal my mum's fabric stiffener instead?

I've used these while working with kids and my only warning is that after they are fused together it is not that hard to break them apart. they couldnt hold any weight.
Ah, okay, thankies.

I've been buying plastic needles lately, just so I could try this!

ooo i need to make this for my friend - what gauge and how many stitches did you cast on for this?
8ply with 4ml needles.

18 rows is 6cm, 16 stitches is 7cm.

Cast on 24, the DS is about 40 rows long. It's pretty loose, though.

Show me when you're done!

There they are. I was wondering, though, has anyone tried using them as a base to crochet off? It looks like a good idea, but what could you do with them?
268  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: I don't know how to slip stitch on: January 15, 2008 08:04:12 PM
Slipping is knitting without the knitting.

You stick your needle in the hole, then ignore the wrapping the yarn around and just transfer it to the other needle.

Yeah, it definately looks like you're twisting stitches.
270  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Has anyone used an online graph to make their own intarsia picture? on: January 15, 2008 12:05:01 AM

I've used a combination of that site and imaging software.

Generate your graph paper, then layer it over your source image. Lower the transparency of your graph and colour it in.

A bit more complex than pumping your picture into a website, but I like complex.
