1  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 25 ENTRIES / Ancient City Kitschy (IMAGE & WORD CHUBBY) on: March 05, 2008 04:47:30 PM
Hello from the Ancient City - St. Augustine, Florida!  Although I have only lived here for two years, I call this self proclaimed "quaint drinking town with a fishing problem" home.

St. Augustine is the official oldest continuous settlement in the new world. It is home to the oldest wooden schoolhouse and the oldest home. Some of the other attractions:

Mission of Nombre de Dios and Our Lady of La Leche Shrine
Fort Matanzas
St. Augustine Lighthouse
Castillo de San Marcos
Ponce de Leon Fountain of Youth
St. Augustine Alligator Farm

and there are more... a lot more. You can find some of it here. With over 400 years of recorded history there was a wealth of things to choose from for this challenge... but that would have been to easy (and boring) for me.  Wink

St. Augustine is a tourist attraction in every sense of the description. So much so, it dictates the way life is lived here. I have lived in quite a few tourist towns over the years - Los Angeles, California - Biloxi, Mississippi - New Orleans, Louisiana. They all share one ingredient, tourist souvenirs! So I couldn't help myself(  Grin ), I present to you my entry. In the honor of all of the tourist towns I have lived in, focusing on my new home and all that is  in the souvenir shops, I give you my tacky Kitschy Window...

I used two placemats, sixteen postcards (all laminated),ribbon, yarn, an old t-shirt and a ton of jump rings.  Nothing fancy, but I think it's fun. Smiley

some detail shots:

one of the placemats:

a better view of the valance part that you can't see in the first photo (sorry my photo skills suck):

some of the postcards:

everything is attached together with jump rings. They are a little difficult to see, so please forgive my elementary paint skills to cover my even more crappy photographer skills

Thanks for looking!
