1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / First backpack on: February 03, 2009 11:12:41 AM
My son and a few of his friends have been bugging me to do some of those sports backpacks, the string ones, out of denim.

The first one was for my son, he asked me to turn it inside out when he saw the lining.  So he has a Green Bay Bag lined with back denim.

I am looking forward to seeing how they come out with denim on the outside of the bag...
2  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Cardinals...First big quilt on: December 28, 2008 09:24:56 AM
I made this for my hubby.  He grew up in the St. Louis area and is a huge Cardinals fan.  I saved his old shirts over the years, I only had to cut some extra black fabric, the shirts provided most of the fabric for the top of the quilt.  I still have to tie it (temp till I get my new sewing machine), but we started using it when the temps went below zero, kept us nice and toasty.

My next quilting project is a twin sized quilt for my son.  I have every Brett Favre jersey he had from the age of about 5.  The center panel will be Favre's packers locker, a picture I took on one of my share holders meetings. I have a June deadline on it, the shirts are cut so I think I will get it done in time.
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Stocking Invasion on: December 23, 2008 07:26:12 AM
I decided to do personal stockings for a lot of the kids in our family.

First 5 smaller ones for our nieces and nephews...

Then I made a little bigger for my kids and grand-kids, each of my kids have had the same store bought stocking from their first Christmas, so they will love having new stockings.

I still have to put the names on the ones for hubby and myself.  We have never had our own stockings, my hubby is real excited to have them.

I would love to make more, but time is gettomg shorter and shorter.

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Messenger bag - denim picture heavy***More pictures, more bags*** on: December 20, 2008 06:40:09 AM
One of my nieces brought over some old pants and a shirt and wanted me to make her a Booty Bag.  She loved the back pocket of the pants.

I took a look and found that to make the bag line up right I would loose half the back pocket.  So I pulled out the messenger bag patter my dear hubby made me.

Bag with flap closed

Flap up...the appliques are from the shirt she wanted as the lining.  And the back pocket is the ones she liked so much.

Back of bag with second pocket.

I used belt loops to hold the strap on.  I love how it looks, and my husband finding the thread they use on jeans makes it so easy to add items to my bags.

I did have to rip the zipper out once.  I did the bag inside out and was so worried about getting the flap on right that I did not look at the zipper.  Turned the bag and found that I had put it in upside down.  I should have taken a picture.

The inside pocket is made from the arm of the shirt...

She is coming over to get it today.  I hope she likes it....

****She loved it!!!  I am making another one for my niece that lives out of town.*****
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Snow Village on: December 19, 2008 07:22:31 AM
This year we had to keep our Village up and well there is not a lot of room.  Lots of bodies, little house.

So I took over a couple shelves.  After I set it all up, hubby said I should make it snow.  This is what I came up with for the end result.

I used fishing line with poly fill taped to it for the falling snow.  I had to cut down on the buildings but it is nice to have the village out...
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Bead wrapped ??? on: December 18, 2008 11:24:48 AM
I have been moving this stone with me for years.  I had it in my crystal collection just waiting for me to bead wrap it.  I have no clue what the stone is, if anyone can help I would love it...

I am now running out of stuff to bead wrap, I need to find a place to buy my raw crystals.  If anyone has a source I would love to hear about it...

7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / New to me on: December 16, 2008 11:54:19 AM
I am still looking around trying to decide just what kind of machine I am going to lay down big buck for.

Until then I was going crazy, I could not sew at all.  After a trip to the local thrift store I picked this girl up for 20.  It took some playing to get her working just right as it came with nothing.

But 20 bucks and the motor is solid.  It sews like a dream!!!

I did not even know that JCPenney ever had a sewing machine.

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My newest reused denim bag...***Now with link to adjustable strap tutorial*** on: December 16, 2008 11:49:15 AM
I have been playing with used denim for a while now.  I do love the "bootie bags". but I also like other styles.

My newest is a messenger bag style.

I am calling it Cherry Peace....

and this is my first adjustable strap....

I have a "bootie bag" I am doing for a friend, then I think I am going to play with this pattern a bit more.

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Dollar Store Wreath on: December 01, 2008 11:35:29 AM
Hubby and I were wondering the dollar store the other day and I decided we needed a wreath.

I found a round shape to use as the base and found things to fill in.  Did not think to take a picture before I started, but here it is on our door.

With jingle bells and all.

We had the bow from years pass so I think the total was $4 for the whole thing.

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Not bad after 16 years***edit***more pictures on: November 29, 2008 04:11:10 PM
I took about a 16 year break from my beads after one of my kids mixed them all together for me.

Now that they are older however I find myself itching to make stuff again.

Here is what my seed beads looked like when I started...

This is the progress after hours...

Still have a lot to sort but I was able to try bead wrapping again.  This is one of my favorite things to do with seed beads.  You work the bead wrap right on the crystal or stone as to not dill at all.

I think it came out nice.  I am glad I am getting more of my colors together so I can do some designs and what not.  But it is good for a 16 year break...
