1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Has anybody purchased dinnerware rather than rented it? on: December 05, 2008 03:53:12 PM
This may not be your style but here's what I'm doing:

Biodegradable bamboo plates!!!!

http://bambuhome.com/products/veneerware/

Look them up.  They look classier than paper or plastic plates, but are way less expensive than buying real dishes.  I'm having an earthy, barefoot, mountain wedding, so it fits with the mood, but I think they would look nice in a more formal setting too.

i've been thinking about the dinnerware issue as well. i checked these out and they look really cool! the closest place that sells them around me is a few hours away so if you could tell me what the cost is and how many come in a package so i don't have to drive just to find out that would be awesome! thanks for suggesting these  Smiley

The best place to buy them is greenfeet.com.   You get a better deal than trying to buy them in a small boutique type store.

Hope this helps!

OOOh...baby cousin costumes!!!  Baby Smee....that is awesome.  Did Smee have a mustache?  Because a baby with a mustache would be wicked.

Thanks so much everyone!  It was so much fun!

My first idea was to go as Peter Pan and Wendy, but then I realized that I probably couldn't get him to wear green tights.

I'm trying to think of other easily recognizable movie or book character couples for next year's costumes.  Any ideas?

My fiance is in the Anchorage Symphony and was playing a children's Halloween concert.  So we needed something "family friendly."  There was a bit of crafting that went into our costumes this year.

Crafted accesories:
Hat- started as an ugly straw hat, painted and adorned with flowers and ribbon
Bowtie
Chimney Sweep - cardboard+broomhandle+spraypaint
Red scarf

My lovely fiance bought me the antique umbrella.  It really made the costume.
See how much we love each other??

Here's the goodies I got!  Thanks so much Ransom!  And thanks to Kittykill for organizing an awesome swap!

Here's what I found when I opened the box; two super cute drawstring bags:

Here's a detail shot of the birdie bag:

Inside the blue bag was a lovely jar o' whimsies:

And inside the purple bag were some spools of ribbon.Lovelove love the colors and designs of them:

Here's the whimsies all laid out:

And some of my favorites!

9  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Help-Want to make a Max from Where the Wild things are costume for baby. on: September 30, 2008 09:59:17 PM
I have also been commissioned to create this same costume for my 25 year old fiance.  He is a musician and plays in the Anchorage Symphony and needs a costume for the children's' halloween concert.  I have no idea how to make one of these.  If only I could find white footy pajamas in adult sizes!!  Good luck.  I'll post any helpful links I come across.
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Jim Henson's "Labyrinth" Themed B-day for 4 year old on: September 24, 2008 10:29:20 PM
Maybe make some sort of maze or something forthe kids to do...after all the movie is about a labyrinth.
I'm trying to think of some way to incorporate the Bog of Eternal Stench into it, but so far no ideas.

Good luck!  What a lucky kid.
