4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Anatomical Swap on: August 17, 2014 04:41:24 PM
Like the Science Swap, but just anatomy.  Human or animal.  Could include nudes?  Definitely skeletons and innards.  Illustrations, specimens, models.  Realistic or not?

I can't organize it because I'm not organized, but thought I'd toss the idea out there.  Smiley

I made this shrine for Cryssoliel in the Whimsical Shrine Swap.  It's approximately 5 inches in diameter, with embroidery on wool felt and sculptural elements of polymer clay.  It has two LED lights.

6  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Semi-Paleo-ish Swedish Meatballs on: August 07, 2014 09:46:46 AM
My sister is on a restricted diet in which she can't eat nightshade relatives (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant), cheese, wheat products or certain tree nuts. She can eat some non-cheese dairy, and cashews. I've been trying to come up with some recipes I can make for her; here's one using Axis deer meat from our neighbors.

For the meatballs

2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
1/2 onion, diced fine
1 pound ground meat
1/4 cup ground cashews (or other nuts)
1 large egg yolks
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
black pepper
For the gravy
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup ground cashews (or other nuts)
1 T tapioca starch or other starch and a little cold water
3 cups broth
1/2 cup sour cream or to taste
black pepper

In a bowl, combine ground meat, onion, ground cashews, egg yolk, allspice, nutmeg and pepper. Using  clean hands, stir until well combined. Roll the mixture into small meatballs.
Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet. Add meatballs and cook until all sides are browned. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
To make the gravy, melt butter in the skillet. Whisk in ground cashews until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Gradually whisk in broth, deglazing pan. Mix starch in a little cold water and add to the pan. Cook, whisking constantly, until slightly thickened, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in sour cream; season with pepper to taste. Stir in meatballs and cook, stirring occasionally, until heated through and thickened, about 8-10 minutes.

Little Visitor Anana has been helping me in the kitchen a lot during his stay with us.  Smiley
