1  Re: Dishalicious Dishcloth/Washcloth Swap Rd. 8 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Yulu on: March 27, 2009 07:46:50 AM
I received from kittyvegas.
How in the world did she know to involve France in her fantastic little dishclothes?
Smiley
Now my bf will think of me while he does the dishes.  (He loves the color btw - which I think is insane, but the kitchen is his domain, so they are perfect.)
Thank you very much...they are gorgeous.  (Or "rad" according to the bf.)

All together now.

2  Re: Craft My Theme 3 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Yulu on: March 27, 2009 07:41:25 AM
I received from yelutci.  This package was ber fantastich.  Thank you so much.
She chose my theme of Phi (fee) - the Golden Ratio.

She did an AMAZING job.

The Whole She-Bang - so beautifully packaged.

Delicious-looking apple-green bookmark.  Did you make this yourself?

Hand-dyed yarn.  I cannot wait to make myself something fantastic out of this.  I am thinking... a scarf?  shawl?

A little Mini-Nautilus to go with my large nautilus.  This guy has some sassy tentacles.

Even her card to me matched - (my fave color is green.)

A little magnetic box with a chambered shell and also a chambered shell necklace.  I wore that necklace the moment I opened the pack.

And of course... the golden ratio itself.  A 1.618 tee!  Thanks so much.

4  The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! in New Swap Theme Ideas by Yulu on: February 16, 2009 12:39:16 PM

A swap centered around the novels/stories about the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and how it screws with Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Marvin, Trillian, dolphins, Vogons, and of course:  Life, the Universe and Everything.

The books are great inspiration and the movie gives some great visualizations, especially for the Guide itself.  You can also listen to the BBC broadcasts of the stories.  I think this would be a fun medium to large point-based swap.

Feedback?

6  Re: Friends of Craftster Raffle Swap R4 FOCR R4 (Signups CLOSED, Send 2/7/09) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Yulu on: February 02, 2009 06:54:03 PM
Hello there!
So, I have a necklace with three interchangeable wood and mineral/semi-precious stone pendants.  They are hand carved and one is hand-stained.  The three minerals are pyrite (Fool's Gold), and two different rose minerals - for which I cannot recall the name - but I will look them up.  I wasn't able to get a good picture of the third, but it is light wood with a rosy colored mineral.  The chain, clasp and hooks are all oxidized metal.
Pics are below.

Sorry for the blurry and poorly colored pictures.

Happy Raffling!
Yulu.

7  M.I.A. - the british-born Sri Lankan musician/artist in Halloween Costumes by Yulu on: November 05, 2008 12:50:17 AM
I made the jumper from a long green stretchy cotton dress (freehand, mind you - they don't make patterns for long-legged jumpers) and a crab t-shirt my friend had made.
I cut and sewed the t-shirt into a half-shirt w/off-the-shoulder sleeves.
I dyed, glittered, and banded the hat - then put a circle of cardboard in it to make it stay flat.
I cut the wig and dyed the tips of the hair.

I also used makeup to make me look more Sri Lankan than Caucasian, but makeup is a completely different talent of mine.  (Ignore the super-white-by-comparison upper arms...  I wore a jacket all nite.)

The pink jacket in the last photo, I purchased based on M.I.A.'s signature "who cares if it matches" attitude and the shiny jacket she wears in the video for "Paper Planes"...   This costume was so much fun!  Smiley

There are two pics below are the real M.I.A. for reference...

Enjoy! Smiley
And if you've never listened to her music - please do... it's amazing.

8  50s Kelvinator Fridge - Revamped!! (Before & After Pic) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Yulu on: April 18, 2008 02:48:10 AM
Grandpa had a great old fridge in his fishing cabin, then it came to live with my parents.  Unfortunately, it reeked of fish and had about 12 layers of paint on it... so after two days of cleaning, stripping, sanding, and spraypainting:

I did this two years ago for a Fourth of July party, but I've never posted here before.  The color is 50s inspired robin's egg blue and the hardware is silver hammered-metal spray paint.

The "before" pic is after the stripping... and it didn't work too well.

The bottom tilts out to hold ice and it sprayed white.  The interior is white as well and the racks are painted with the same hammered-metal.  It's now a beer/soda fridge.  (Maybe I'll inherit it if I get a house of my own someday.)
