431  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Messenger Bag Made From Two Jackets on: December 10, 2010 09:13:27 AM
This turned out great.  I love the pockets, especially.  But really, I can't imagine the plaid fabric as a blazer.  Oh, 80s... you did the funniest things to clothes.

anitacj & Ariethine, there will definitely be a de-stash along thread for 2011.  I was going to post it closer to Christmas (after all my classes are done), unless someone beats me to it for some reason.

We talked a little earlier about trying out the theme idea again, but does anyone else have suggestions about what could improve our de-stash thread experience for next year?

Don't forget to join the 50 projects as well...that really helped me make a lot more things than I normally would! Cheesy

yes...I was thinking that, but worked it into this thread...ooops!  Wink
No reason you can't cross-post! (the mods might say different, but I love seeing pictures)

The De-stash along will definitely continue next year!  I was thinking of putting up the thread a few days after Christmas.
What would people think of a bit more structure next year?  Remember the themes on the first page?  We could post new ones monthly instead, and maybe a challenge or link to a charity that has good de-stashing possibilities.  And last year we had a de-stash tiny thing swap that could be fun to duplicate.

Pillowcases make the best cheer-up gifts when you're in a strange place.  My made me a few when I went away to college with fabric from our favorite little shop, and they were about the only thing that kept me from being overwhelmed with homesickness the first semester.  I have been on a pillowcase making binge these past few days.  Knocked out two more yesterday afternoon, and have plans for at least two more tonight.  Most will be donated to ConKerr, but I think I'm going to be making a few out of my small mountain of Christmas fabric to wrap bulky presents this season.

I'd love to see a pic of yours, rottenlittleboys.  They all look so different depending on the fabric used.  Hope it cheers MIL up a bit.

It has been forever since I had anything to show for myself, what with swaps and Christmas crafting.  But I managed to whip out a pillowcase for ConKerr earlier this week. It was one of those projects you make when you've had a horrible "why won't this work" craft incident and need something super easy for some instant gratification.

Pattern here (http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-conkerr-cancer-pillowcases.html) if anyone wants to try their hand.
437  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Scrappy Cot Quilt For A New Arrival on: November 26, 2010 10:05:23 AM
Gorgeous!  I am always amazed how so many different fabrics can come together so harmoniously in scrappy quilts, and this is an especially good example.  Mum & Dad & baby are sure to love it.

I'm weighing in on the side of the first option, but that may just be my love of a blue/brown color combo speaking.  The playful print seems to fit better with the corduroy pants, too.

Ack!  Hawkeye colors.  I'm currently living in Iowa City, and the entire town looks like its covered in bees (or has a huge population of Hufflepuffs, which is my preferred delusion).  I've never seen a place with so much school spirit.  And the funny thing is most of my family's from Pittsburgh, so that color combination haunts me wherever I go.

Cute hats, and I am incredibly jealous of the ball-winder/swift combo.  Sometimes stash that needs that extra bit of prep work languishes longest, so anything that cuts through that final step is a good thing.

I went to Joann's this evening for a spool of thread.  I came out with several yards of fabric.  But there's a reason- it was fabric my friend had been eyeballing for curtains, and on the super-duper discount/get it before its gone rack.  So I bought out the bolt.  Hope she hasn't changed her mind, otherwise I've got 5 yards of lovely paisley to find a use for.
