The binding was my favorite part on the few quilts I've done, too.  I found the hand-sewing very soothing and controllable after wrestling with my sewing machine for so long.

February DeStash Themes

Color: Red
For: Someone who needs cheering up
Pattern: Polka-dots
Misc.: Hearts
Challenge: Finish up the oldest UFO you can find in your stash, or any old unfinished object.

January was a very productive month.  Let's keep up the momentum for February!

I have finally found all the pieces for my "first quilt" started back in 2005 and never finished.  I had no idea what I was doing (not that I know much more now), and selected some flannel backed satin for the backing.  I'm wondering whether I should tie the quilt instead of machine quilting?  I can only do straight line quilting with my machine, and am worried that the feed dogs would do strange things to the satin.

I am sensing a medieval theme going on, meleriffic, which I love.  Are you preparing for some sort of event?

Two more projects for the January De-Stash effort.

1) Fetchings

Unfortunately, these didn't use up a whole ball.  No idea what I'll do with the leftovers.

2) Box

Made for a class.  Its big enough to hold pencils, etc. and all the covering material came from stash.

Okay, I've finally convinced myself to jump aboard.

I'm a newbie quilter and really should be concentrating on schoolwork, so I'll be lucky if I make it anywhere close to 11 in 2011, but I hope to make it at least half-way.

1.  Finish the baby quilt I started in college and never got around to quilting
2.  Orange and blue quilt for kids - very simple, squares already cut.
3.  lap quilt or wall-hanging out of appliqued sea life blocks I made with my aunt
4.  Find a use for the dinosaur panel in my stash.  Who doesn't love dinos?
5.  Another quilt for kids out of the pastels/sweets fabrics in my stash.
6.  Blues!  I have so many collected, I need to do something with them.
7.  etc.  No idea at this point.

We'll see how this goes.

Sounds like everyone is off to a good start this year...lots of projects and destashing...maybe by spring we can give ourselves a guilt free shopping spree! (but only for stuff we are going to be using... Cheesy)...

That may be part of the super-secret bargain with myself, but you'll never catch me admitting it out loud.

I would love to join, but I'm not sure I could do all 11 quilts, or even name 11 quilts I plan to make at this point.  I do hope to finish 3 quilts-for-kids quilts this semester, and had vague plans for 4 more for friends over the course of the year, but those don't really fit in with my de-stashing goals.  It is hard to reconcile two very different crafting desires- quilting (a newer craft for me) and using what I have on hand - and schoolwork as well.

I wander away for a week, and find 10 pages of productivity appeared in my absence.  Good job, ya'll!  Everyone's projects look great.

I finally have something to show for myself.

Exhibit 1:  Post-it note thingies as favors for my grandmother's 80th (surprise) birthday party.

Loosely based on this tutorial: http://bit.ly/A8hpr.

Exhibit 2: Part of a granny-square lap-ghan

Unfortunately I don't have enough yarn in stash to make it full size.  The final 10 inches will have to wait until I allow myself to look at yarn again this summer.

That's three partial skeins of yarn out of the stash, plus 4 sheets of scrapbook paper (every little bit helps).  Add to that the three skeins of acrylic I've packed up for the goodwill, and I'm beginning to make a noticeable dent.  Not much of one, but its a start.

LaughingLark, I love the look of your dyed yarn.  It really gives the piece more interest than a plain color would.  (eyes crock pot and kool aid, then reminds self that there is no suitable yarn in stash to dye).

I have managed to get a grand total of nothing done (stash or otherwise) so far this year.  But now that I'm back from the holidays, I was able to finally photograph my stash.

Fabric - mostly cottons, with a few dec. weight and corduroy thrown in for variety.  I hope to get down to one tub + 1 shoebox by August.

Yarn (give or take a few balls scattered around my room)  Again, my goal is to de-stash down until it all fits in the black rolly bin.

Fiber - nearly infinitely squishable, so my plan is to resist buying more rather than use up X amount.

I still need to take a picture of my paper stash, but that's currently spread out between my place and the studio at school.
It may not look like I have a huge amount (especially given some of the amazing stashes people have shared here).  But I am a grad-student living in one room, and I'll be moving in August with all my worldly belongings in the back of my little sedan, so my motivation is both financial and spacial.
