@edelC - Wow, what a transformation!  I bet it feels nice to have a clear table right before Christmas Crafting starts.  And I love your blue shelves on the wall!

@jennleahlynn - What a strange mix-up!  Does this mean there's someone else out there with your cover on their book?  I hope you can get it fixed with the printer.

Somehow pictures turned out much larger than normal... still trying to figure out the best way to go about all this.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Apparition
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Acorns Galore
Brief Description:  When I first started making smallish doll clothes I ran into a lot of difficulty with attaching the skirt as instructed: one or two rows of gathering stitches on the skirt, lining up the raw edges of skirt and bodice with right sides together and sewing with a quarter inch seam allowance.  When I flipped the skirt right side out it always poofed alarmingly, the gathers never lay flat, and there was generally too much bulk at the waist.  I've since learned to sew all the way around the bodice and lining, just leaving a small gap at the bottom front so that you can flip it inside out like a pillowcase and then iron the heck out of it.  After sewing the side seams, I sew three rows of gathering stitches on the skirt, line up the finished edge of the bodice with the second row of gathering stitches and top-stitch on the bodice to attach the skirt, and then trim the extra seam allowance.  There's the same number of layers of fabric as before, but somehow between the extra ironing and top-stitching, everything just sits flatter.  Plus the extra rows of gathering stitches and larger seam allowance on the skirts helps keep the gathers even rather than crossing or folding as they often did before.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Astronomy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Shooting Star Dress
Brief Description: This fabric seemed perfect for a project inspired by meteor showers

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Floo Powder: Prague
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Autumn Stripes
Brief Description: The fabric of the skirts reminds me of the deep colors and mix of patterns that goes along with bohemian style.

OWL Subject & Option(if available): Potions
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Jaywalker Socks
Brief Description: I would like to make a pair of Jaywalker Socks for my potions project.  These incorporate three different textures in their construction - the ribbing at the top, the zig-zag pattern on the leg, and plain stockinette for the bottom of the foot.  This should be particularly challenging considering that the zig-zag pattern has very little give so gauge will be more difficult that my usual sock choices.

October Themes

Color: Orange
Pattern: Sparkles
Inspiration: Music
Challenge #1:  Halloween is really the best holiday, because it's all about creativity and candy.  Use your stash and your creativity to create a costume or some holiday decorations.
Challenge  #2:   10 is such a nice round number.  Make something inspired by ten - using 10 things, something that uses 10 pieces of your stash, whatever works for you

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Muggle Studies
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Jack-o-Lantern Dress
Brief Description: Inspired by the muggle sport of Pumpkin Chunkin.  One event I went to threw used jack-o-lanterns.  Another used very scientific, specially grown perfectly spheroid pumpkins.  You can guess which one was more entertaining.

Flying around!
37  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: ~*HP Craftalong - Midsummer Semester 2016*~ on: September 12, 2016 08:23:52 AM
I agree with ErinAquaheart!  I love looking at all the deadline induced project dumps.

Patty-o-Furniture - Those peg people are absolutely adorable!  I am always jealous of other people's painting skills, 3-D or otherwise.

FiberAlchemist - That quilt top is terrific!!!  It's an unusual color palette that looks really great in such a scrappy pattern.  And I may have to steal your idea of a dice-box for some friends' Christmas presents.

Squeezing in with some extra Quidditch points...

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Beater
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Itty Bitty Books
Brief Description: Muggles of old, unable to stow their luggage magically, used to create miniature libraries in order to be able to take their books on the road with them.  Later miniature books became novelties and children's toys.  These are blank, but the sentiment is much the same. {Inspired by Muggle Books}

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Bumphing
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Blue Shrug
Brief Description: I don't sit still very well, so it is better for me and those who I'm sharing a couch with for me to have a small knitting project to work on while I'm watching TV.  This is the final result of a fairly short Stargate marathon.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Blurting
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Career Advisory
Brief Description: While I have my resume builder in the Hogwarts Career Office thread, I usually only remember to check it after the semester has ended.  I made myself a checklist/worksheet to go in my planner after my usual semester pages so I can be more pro-active in choosing projects that will fulfill both requirements.  Washi tape helps disguise ink-bleed through and false starts when writing everything out longhand.  It's now up to date through the Spring Semester, but I still need to go through and enter everything for the Summer Semester.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Cobbing
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Butterfly Dress
Brief Description: The sparkles may not show up in this poorly lit late-night picture, but I think anything that incorporates glitter is by its very nature excessive.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Flacking
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: 2016 Batch of Citrus Swirl Dresses
Brief Description: Dresses are worn on the body, although the bodies in this instance are 6 inches tall and made of resin and elastic rather than flesh and blood.  (I realize this might be stretching things a little bit.  Let me know if  the powers that be think this should be re-assigned.)

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Astronomy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Red Retro Dress
Brief Description: This dress is made of a poly fabric from my great-aunt's stash.  I had to be a little careful with the iron to make sure nothing melted.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Gingham Dress
Brief Description: These started out as identical dresses, but then my friend and I had a little bit of fun in the embellishment box with one of them.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Commentator
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Rose Dress
Brief Description: Rather on the traditional side...

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Haversacking
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Jelly Jar Dress
Brief Description: Actually, I feel like this needs something extra to be really finished.  Any suggestions for trims/embellishments are welcome!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Referee
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Halloween Dress
Brief Description: Have you run across fabrics that are supposed to be quilting cottons seem to have an almost plasticy feel to them?  I don't know if it's the dye or the sizing or what, but it doesn't wash out so I tend to avoid them.  But sometimes the prints are just too perfect and needs must.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Stooging
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Realfee Dress
Brief Description: I make a lot of these, obviously, so it's getting pretty easy to whip one up.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Study of Ancient Runes
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Red Calico Dress
Brief Description: To be honest, this prompt really confused me so I went with the example rune of dagaz

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Alchemy *** Correction : Arithmancy ***
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Petite Fours Dress for Pukifee
Brief Description: Scraps from my great-aunts' stash must be my favorite material given how much of it I use. Tongue

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Floo Powder - Zambia
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: One Single Sock
Project Page Link: Tracks
Brief Description: I'm always amazed when noodle-bug turns in socks for regular old assignments, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  A month later I remembered why I always use them for OWL assignments, so I figured I should turn in the one single sock I have done.  This was originally started for the Little Whinging Floo Powder challenge.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Headmistress' Challenge - August
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Cookies
Brief Description: Classes started last week, so I made my student workers a batch of cookies as sort of a consolation prize for the end of summer.  A poll among the kids last year proved that you can't go wrong with good old chocolate chip cookies.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Oddball Dress for Pukifee
Brief Description: I found a really pretty scrap of recycled vintage fabric that I thought would make a really pretty dress.  But when I started clipping the seams it basically started to disintegrate.   After dousing the whole thing with fray-check before and after turning the bodice it turned out okay, if a little bit crunchy.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Try-Outs
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Summer Vines Dress for Littlefee
Brief Description:  Doll Dress - 'nuff said...

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Chaser
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Blue Dresses
Brief Description: Honestly, my notes just say 3 items together.  Hope this counts.
