11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / "i'm huge so i cover my whole body" sweatshirt, to PRETTY TOP (w/pattern) on: February 20, 2008 10:01:46 AM
i don't have a before picture, but it was huge! very wide, with long sleeves and high collar that my mom used to wear when i was like in first grade (i'm 21 now Tongue) because the thought she was "so big" that she had to cover her entire upper body....

anyway, i found it in the attic in the "give away bags" of clothing, like pretty much everything i'm sewing this summer vacations (in Chile it's summer right now Wink)

i was looking in my "patterns" folder on my computer and didn't find anything i like, so i searched on "utilisima.com" website
(i posted the links to a list of free knitting and sewing projects from that web on the "free patterns" topic)
and found this "bell sleeve t-shirt" and i gave it a try
http://www.utilisima.com/manualidades/trabajo_06.php?IdTrabajo=1923  (molde = pattern)
it has a gathered neckline and sleeves

that web site is great, there's a lot of ideas with patterns, that you have to draw yourself to "real life size" Cheesy
all in Spanish and metric sistem (i hate the inches and feet sistem  Angry)

well, this is my new top:

i really really really like how it looks, i think is one of my "most professional finished shirts" i have made Smiley

don't forget to comment, thank you for reading
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / the hoodless hoodie!! (memories from childhood) on: February 20, 2008 09:38:19 AM
i was looking in the attic in those "give away" bags of clothing
and i found a purple hoodie my sister wore a lot! when she was younger (but it is still kinda big)
and like i'm in a "purple" stage right now (i used to be in an orange stage) i decided to update it.

i used another hoodie that i love to make the pattern, and bought light blue knitted fabric for the wristband and waistband and some purple for the collar, i didn't want to make it hooded, (and i don't know how a hoodless hoodie is called in english, cause i speak spanish Tongue here there are all "polerones")
anyway, the "neck hole" turned out to be too wide for a collar (didn't think about that until it was too late to fix) so the collar is kinda big, but i still like it (actually it reminded me the joodito high collars, kinda)

it was hard to find those knitted fabric here in my city (Concepcin)
because they sell them in "sport fabric" stores, not in the regular fabric stores

and it was hard to make the sides even when i put the zipper Tongue

(hte red tshirt is my pj, i allways sew at night Cheesy)

i love my new "polern"!!!  Grin  Grin  Grin

and don't forget to comment! Wink
thank you!
13  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / SEWING LEATHER?? on: February 19, 2008 10:35:59 AM
(first time posting a question here)

can i sew leather with a regular sewing machine and regular sewing thread??

i bought a really pretty leather jacket for my boyfriend on a second hand shop (reaaally cheap) ($4.000 chilean pesos Wink)
but the only problem is that we are both... hmmm petite size so the jacket is too big, but not "too" big, i mean is still kinda wearable, but the sleeves are too long,
the jacket has wristbands? made of knitted fabric (i speak spanish) and he has to fold those nice wristbands inside,
i was thinking to make the sleeves shorter and re-sewing the wristbands
is that posible?

this is the jacket (and my boyfriend Kiss)

thank you so much for reading, i really hope you can answer me Smiley
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / really boring collar button-up tshirt, to super cute summer top (light pics!!!) on: February 09, 2008 09:01:18 PM
first, i speak spanish and i dont know how do you call this shirts in english Tongue
but i think you get it...

this tshirt was a birthday present from an aunt a miiillion year ago, i think my sister wore like... once
and it has been living in the closet for years, until now that i'm on summer vacation and i'm in a sewing-like-crazy phase Cheesy
someday i'll post aaaaaaall my post surgery tshirts, but this one for now. (i study medicine, so... a joke!)
i made for my sister, because she kinda stole my tshirt..

(sorry about the reaaaally bad pictures, i used my webcam, the other camera is out of batteries Sad)

the boring tshirt:

the tshirt in post-op:

i really hate sewing bias tape or stuff like that, it wasn't that hard this time, but still the same issue, it turn out stretched, like... tense... I want an overlock machine!!!! Sad i had to make little darts everywhere so it doesn't look so "open"

(from far you can't see the baaad bias-taping)

the tshirt was a little short for my sister so i sew the (opened) collar at the bottom, and it turned out really well (its hard to see on the pic though Tongue)

that's it, thank you so much for looking Smiley
i wan to hear some comments

saludos
15  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Sigur Rs embroidery, for the bf ;) on: January 30, 2008 10:27:47 PM
me and my boyfriend looooooooooooove Sigur Ros, and we looove the gtis byrjun cover (love love love)
i think the drawing is just too beautiful.
and we wanted to paint it or something on a t-shirt, or our backpacks, anything, and never did it Tongue
until now!!
i made this on a black tshirt (he really wanted a black t-shirt, so it's like 2 presents in one Cheesy)
on february 11th, will be 3 years together!! Smiley (that's what the "XI/II" stands for, here in Chile we always put the day first then the month Wink )

and it's my first non-cross-stitch embroidery

i bought a white tshirt to embroider the same picture, but in black, so we have (another Cheesy) matching tshirt.
(thats my next project).

hope you like it, coments are appreciated Smiley
16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / psyco-funky-delic retro bag!! with pics (lots) and pattern. on: January 28, 2008 01:17:32 PM
finally i took pictures of it
I JUST LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE MY NEW BAG, it's made from the most perfect fabric that i've been wanting to find all my life.
i'm SO proud of it, when i go back to class at the university i want everybody to ask me where i bought my bag  Cool xD
i bought the fabric at a second hand shop, it was a big square pillow case (it cost $1000 chilean pesos, cultural note of the day xD)
i used some impermeable white fabric i found (it was reaaally old)
and between those 2 fabrics i put some padding fabric thing, because the pillow case was too thin, but it wasn't enough, i went to the stores to buy some more and everywhere they told me: "hmm i don't know what is that" "we dont have that thing". i think it was TOO old, so i bought white polar (i think in english its called like that too, right?) and worked very good.

front:

back:

the amazing pocket i made, i'm do proud of it, it's perfectly made (sorry but i'm excited! Cheesy)

inside out:

and pockets (the first is for my cell phone, the others for mirror, hand cream, sunscreen, toilet paper Cheesy etc)

and the zipper!! i'm so proud of it too, is the first tiem i sew one, and i had to learn how to use the zipper foot of my machine (my mom never learn how to use it, and the machine is pretty old Cheesy)
it worked perfect

for the pattern i used a mix of the totebag pattern from Wild Things software
( http://www.wildginger.com/products/wildthings.htm )
and a couple of bags i have, the measurements are from other bags.

that's it, hope you lIke it
comments, criticism, questions are VERY WELCOME

THANKS FOR LOOKING Smiley
17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / sailorly BOXER for my bf, with PATTERN and PICS (and more pattern links) on: January 28, 2008 12:20:45 PM
i found a boxer pattern in http://www.utilisima.com, a tv channel from Argentina that has cooking shows, sewing shows, knitting shows, crafting etc etc.... (I'M FROM CHILE)
one show is called "Puntos y Puntadas" (puntadas=stiches, puntos means like when you knit, i don'k know how you call them Tongue)
----> http://www.utilisima.com/manualidades/txp.php?Id=34 this is a list of all the projects, with patterns and explanation, **all in spanish**, you will need to learn about vestidos, faldas, poleras, remeras, bermudas... all you need is to know basic spanish or a spanish dictionary Grin

anyway, i found a boxer pattern, and i remember my boyfriend is running out of boxers Cheesy
and boxer are sooo expensive!!! they cost like 4 times more than girls (pretty) underwear.
so i decided to try this pattern, and try to understand it, i had to go find my dad's boxers (that were a gift and he never wore, so literally "find" them) to see the cuts and the pieces and everything.
here's the picture of the sample boxer on the website http://www.utilisima.com/manualidades/trabajo_06.php?IdTrabajo=569
and the pattern (or "molde"): http://www.utilisima.com/manualidades/works/img/boxer1.jpg

i was just trying, so i used a reaaally ugly old tshirt i found
the problem is that the fabric wasn't very stretchy, i added a couple of cm to the pattern (and made the legs shorter;)) so they turned out kind of small, i think they are actually a size SMALL. they fit me ok, and i'm hmm "wider" than him in the behind area xD

and here's the boxer i made, front:

and back:

and a piece that i added, it wasn't on the pattern but it was on the boxer i used as a guide, and the fabric wasn't too stretchy so i needed extra room for the legs Cheesy and i think it fits better that way
well, fits ME better because i was my own model, my boyfriend hasn't try them on yet, but i think they will fit right because we're kind of the same size Smiley (we share clothes a lot)

i used and OLD elastic for the waist, it was a little smelly Tongue
and it was the perfect lenght, lucky me

and that's it, i think it turned out great!!
and it was my first time
(making men's underwear Cheesy)

thanks for looking!!
and make your guy some boxers
i probably make some undies for me too, with matching fabric of course Shocked

*EDIT: the pattern in english, i didn't change the centimeters, because i HATE inches!!!  Angry
everyone should use the Metric System!!
so, sorry for that, i use Babylon to convert measurments, you can use that.

18  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / super easy and cute wallet! (pics need diet xD) on: January 25, 2008 07:06:09 PM
I used incredibly understandable and simple tutorial by yonorris14 http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=101026.0  Smiley

it takes so little time (and so Little fabric) and looks really good

it's not finished though, there is no snap, I'm going to buy one on monday =P, and if it doesn't work, I'm sewing a loop to use with the button.

for the inside fabric i used the lining that i took off from a dress months ago (it's like golden kind of)

that photo is to show you the ID cards here in Chile, and my University credential Cheesy
the only "problem" is that the pockets turned out too wide for my cards, but it doesn't matter because it looks soooo good!!
I've been trying to make something with that fabric for ages!!

and the back (it looks wrinkly because of the folds)

in the tutorial she doesn't mention the additional sewing around the pockets, but you can see it on her photos, and i did the same, because it looks better (and it makes the pockets smaller too)

*EDIT
the best advice and tip for making this kind of things is: IRON LIKE CRAZY!!!!Cheesy Cheesy

thanks for looking, i'm waiting for your comments Smiley
19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / dino-LAPTOP BAG/CASE, w/pics, Roarr!! on: January 16, 2008 09:50:54 AM
i finished last night a laptop bag for my boyfriend as a very-late christmas present
the last thing i bought was the fabric, i wanted a kids but not too "embarrasing" fabric, because he uses at the university, in a lab he is working Cheesy
and he loves dinosaurs so i think its perfect for him Smiley
(sorry for the bad pictures, i just took them with my webcam)

i used sponge or foam (i speak spanish, i don't know hoy you call it) and it was a nightmare!! because the sewing machine got stuck like every 5 cm. i'm never doing one of this things ever again!! (unless with foam that can be sewn with a regular sewing machine)

for the inside i used a impermeable fabric i found in a bag of fabric that was in the attic (i think my mom used it to put on the matress when me and my sister were babies so we didn't get the matress wet Cheesy

and i didn't know how big to cut the fabrics so the finished thing was the right size (i just hope the actual laptop fits) the free space shrinks a looooot because of the folding and the sponge, so if you want to do one of this things cut the fabric really really long Wink

and for more bad news, yesterday i bought 1 metro of velcro, and the lady gave me 2 stripes of the hard part of the velcro!! so it doesn't attach...  Angry
i'll have to go to the store and change it or something
the damn velcro!!! Cheesy

now i'm off to finish a present for our 3 year aniversary  Kiss
it's a black tshirt that i'm embroidering (bordar?) with a Sigur Ros album cover that we love Smiley

(i love sharing my projects with you!! Cheesy)
20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / TIE BAG!!! w/ skinny pics ;) on: January 11, 2008 07:20:21 PM
i found an old dress that my mom made and wore it like... 1 time
and i decided to make a nice purse for my sister
i promise her a purse as a late-chirtmas present, but i couldn't find the color that she wanted, they sell them in some stands like the hot-dog stands in other countries, they have hats, scarves, socks, make up (i don't think its really good quality tho Tongue) and lots of stuff like christmas tree lights for the holidays. (i'm from Chile)

anyway.. here's the tie bag, is the first time i made one, and i am thinking in selling them, but i don't know yet...

you can see my "moulin rouge" poster my boyfriend gave me as one of the presents for our 2 year aniversary (1 year ago Cheesy)

it has a pocket in the front (it was a sleeve i think Tongue)

and this is the original pattern, but i changed  the measurements.

the body of the bag are 4 parts and i used 2 bottom parts to make it long lasting.

thanks for reading, i really love this web!!!
Cheesy
