21  Hello Hexagons! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Kochopia on: September 08, 2011 12:03:04 PM
Last year I started crocheting a blanket for my gramma for her 80th birthday. She's always crocheted blankets for everyone else in the family. A few years ago we made her a calendar with pictures of all the family members and their afghan collections. No one has ever crocheted her a blanket, and I was going to be the first.

Needless to say, I didn't finish it by her 80th birthday, but I did present it to her and she was very excited about it. Months passed and I realized I had been doing the blanket wrong the entire time (no chain stitches on the ends! I ended up with a big ole trapezoid which is now an awkward scarf for my mom), so I scrapped it.

This May I started again. I had completely changed the pattern to one I found online (the very famous -- http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/hexagon-howto.html) and got to work.

She lives in Florida, so she didn't need anything too large, and 150 hexagons later, I was finished.

No two hexagons are the same (actually two are the same but I can't find them...the rest are all different). My boyfriend actually helped me with the combinations on an excel spreadsheet so I wouldn't duplicate any of them...I gave it to her (mostly done) at her 81st birthday party this August, took it back for three days and finished it. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of the completely finished blanket, but there are a few when it was about 95% done.

Her face looks creepy but I wanted to blur it out just in case.

This is the blanket, only one row is missing here.

Kitty likes it!

I hope you all enjoy my blanket!

22  Re: Portal & Friends Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Kochopia on: September 03, 2011 09:16:22 AM
I received from Finchy yesterday!! It was such a nice surprise after my week of no power!

First I pulled out an awesome embroidery hoop! I'm so excited about this

Steampunk and Portal combined! I am so excited you thought of this! I love how the gear is the heart what a great idea! It is the second addition to my growing craftster hoopla wall!

The second thing I pulled out was this awesome bag! This is definitely going to be my new yarn bag because the other one I have is just too big.

I also got this amazing steampunky stamp which is amazing because Ive been looking for one for scrapbooking and it is perfect!

I also got these great cookies, which I love and cant ever find anywhere, (Its like she could read my mind!) and which I opened and ate immediately!

I Hope she loves her stuff as much as I love mine!

Thank you FinchyMcFincherton! I love it all!  Cheesy

26  College Scrapbook -- Two New Pages in Scrapbooking: Completed Projects by Kochopia on: June 19, 2011 11:19:24 AM
I just graduated from college with a bachelors degree in biochemistry.

To kind of memorialize it all, I've decided to make a college scrapbook!

Here are my first two pages,

Cafemantic is a cafe in the city my school was in. When the weather was nice, my friends and I would try to go there at least twice a week. I LOVE cafemantic and honestly this page was the main reason I wanted to make a scrapbook in the first place hahah I love inspiration like that

These are photos from my graduation day...

(No matter what I do...this photo will NOT straighten up haha)

I put hearts over their faces, gotta respect privacy! First is my boyfriend, then my mom, my aunt and my sister and finally me and my lab partner

I hope you like them! There will definitely be more soon

27  Re: ACTIVE: JUNE GRANNY-A-DAY 06/01/11-06/30/11 in Crochetalongs by Kochopia on: June 10, 2011 11:13:48 AM
I've been working on mine for two and a half months now, and here are my hexagons, not quite squares, but grannies all the same if you'd like to call them that...

light blue outside

dark blue outside

dark green outside

light green outside aaand

purple outsides

I'm working with five colors, all Caron simply soft.

There's kind of a back story to this blanket, but I'll save that for a different post

28  Re: I Want to Work for an Evil Corp. Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Kochopia on: May 16, 2011 08:54:04 AM
I got my package from Emo Penguin Toast!!!

My companies were Aperture, Blue Sun, and Vault Tec

I got an awesome box of Sugar Bombs Cereal and a mug from Aperture

There was a letter of appreciation explaining how awesome I am!

Inside the box, which I'm definitely going to use for crafty supplies, was a bunch of stickers and IDs for each of my companies (I am now unstoppable!)

Thank you Emo Penguin Toast!!

29  Yarn Ball Holder...? (sorry about the two mondo pictures) in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by Kochopia on: January 24, 2011 02:50:20 PM
I don't know if this would go here, or in the recycling board, but since it's mostly about yarn, I figured I'd put it here.

I HIGHLY doubt I'm the first one to think of this, but I couldn't find any post on it, but maybe I was just looking for the wrong thing?

I can't afford to buy a yarn bag to hold my yarn ball in. I also don't have space at school for my sewing machine to sew myself up one, so I figured out a new way to recycle old Clorox wipe containers...

They come in many different sizes, but again I am 100% sure I'm not the first one to think of this.
