1  UNITED STATES / Kentucky / Nitty Gritty on: November 14, 2004 07:10:49 PM
The Nitty Gritty Thrift Shop off Baxter Avenue in Louisville, KY was listed as one of Elle magazine's favorite thrift shops. I just thought that was really cool and would share it with fellow crafting Kentuckians.
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / STUPID POLYURETHANE!!! on: July 26, 2004 01:05:13 PM
Okay, I'm having a problem. And someone must help me before I rip my hair out!!!! AHHHH. The I've been using minwax polyurethane on my furniture pieces and it is turning them yellow. I've tried like 5 different cans because i thought it might just be a bad or old can, but to no avail. Does anyone know why or what I can do to solve this?!!
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Yellowing Polyurethane on: July 18, 2004 05:04:19 PM
I buy old pieces of furniture and repaint them using acrylic paints to make them usable works of art. I'm having a problem with my polyurethane yellowing. On several pieces I've had to resand them and touch up the paint. Will somebody please tell me why this is happening? I don't want to apply it to anymore pieces until I can remedy the situation. Can says dries clear, does not!  Angry
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Record Sleeve Picture Frame on: May 14, 2004 12:02:07 PM
I got bored and tried making something, hope ya like it.
I used the album sleeve of an old record I got at the Local Peddler's Mall for 25cents.
To make this you will need:

A record sleeve
Mod-Podge (or any decoupage glue)
A brush to apply the glue
Some collage paper or tissue
A piece or string or ribbon
An exacto knife
Photo corners

All you do is use a ruler to draw out the lines of where you want your pictures to go. You can make all different shapes and sizes. After you have drawn them out use the exacto knife (very carefully I might at, because you don't want any casualties) to cut along the lines. I would put something hard inside the sleeve so you wont cut through both the front and the back of the sleeve. Then I cut the top and bottom of the sleeve so that it opened up like a book from the left side. I used decoupage tissue to decorate the frame of where the picture will be but i suppose that would be all up to you. I used photo corners (for scrapbooking) to hold the pictures in because they won't come off and that means i can change the pictures without having to re-attach them. So, just stick your photo corners at the corners of where your picture holes are on the back inside part of the sleeve. Then all you have to do is make holes at the top to run your string/ribbon/whatever through both sides to hold it together and to hang it and ta da*!

My mom has been nagging me for a week to get on here and ask if anyone knows why her candles are sinking in the middle. She just started trying to make candles and so far she is having bad luck. Every time she makes one the top, around the wick sinks in. If any experienced candle makers know what the problem is, my mom would appreciate the help and i would too! By the way, has anyone every heard of making "ice candles"?
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Coke crate stool on: April 14, 2004 03:56:04 PM
I found an old coke crate full of Nehi soda bottles at the auction for $3!! And then...I turned it into a foot stool.
To make it all I did was paint the crate, grout the bottles into the four side slots on the crate. Then I flipped it upside down, put cushioning on it and covered it with cute bandana fabric and touched it off with a white ribbon.

My mother and I are starting a business remodeling old furniture and other items we find at auctions and flea markets or dumpster diving. I like to decoupage and I was wondering if anyone knew where to find good copyright and royalty free images to use. Any input would be great. I know at Michaels in my town you can buy books that come with a cd full of copyright free images, but they don't have a very wide selection. HELP!!
