1  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Useful yet ornamental on: April 25, 2010 07:56:42 PM
I am back in school to work on my MFA in Graphic design (well, will be in the grad program next fall-this semester I am still working on some undergrad classes.) Anyway, one of those classes asked us to do an Egg Drop. Had to be functional (the egg does not break with a three story drop) and aesthetically beautiful. Our group did not win the creativity or complexity priszes, but I still love it. We went whimsical!

Anyway, I felted a chicken around a styrofoam egg, then took that egg out and put in a real one for the drop. We had her in a basket with felted "hay" and a felted egg, then last minute added a parachute. I love how it turned out. It is only my second felted animal, and I LOVE doing them.

In her basket

I don't have any with the parachute (someone else was taking those, but he does not seem to give a hoot about grades, so we have not seen them yet. Nope, not bitter at all about doing group projects with idiots. Sigh.
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Pocket Calendar Star Book on: January 05, 2010 08:17:17 PM
Just for fun. I want to make a few more as gifts.  This one the cover was a bit too big, but I loved making it!

Oh, and yes, the picture background is wrinkled..I was to lazy to iron my big backdrop for one thing tonight, as I will hopefully have quite a few things to photograph for my application to grad school portfolio next week. I hope. I mean, I hope I have it all done!
3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Honest critique needed on: February 06, 2008 08:47:55 AM
I am just starting to try to sell my cards.  I have one on Etsy (I know...I need more then one, but that one let me learn how to list stuff...trials are good!)  I have built a website not to buy from but for information (and the option to buy if you contact me) and I have a business card.  Any thoughts or advice???

Website: www.budjaboo.com (yes, it redirects to a .mac account...I am working on the hosting issues now...I am just learning.

Business card (the logo can be presented as this, or centered with the little logo between the two words...that is how I stamp it on the back of my cards.)  I also printed the cards in  green, blue & pink with the brown text...leaves me a lot of room to play with colors.  I am really into brown now...anything could work.

OK, not such an original title!

I am trying to start a card business this year (on top of trying to craft more, eat healthier, be more environmentally friendly...yada, yada, yada...)  Anyway, I did a few things to help this little business plan along.

1) Create a book for sketches (so far this year only about 10 pages are filled...and I didn't photograph any of them)
The big one is for home, the little one to take with me.  They are books I had lying around (I have a rather large collection of blank books...now that I make my own, I need to find a way to re-use or re-purpose them!)

2) Create a cork-board to keep notes on (this image also shows the website I have created along with a logo/business name/business card and my plan for what to do )

3) Beyond just crafting more and making more cards, I wanted a challenge to last all year.   I found a website (http://eliseblaha.typepad.com/paper08/) that I plan to follow for the year...this is the journal I created out of scraps I had lying around.  I am trying to make more scrapbook pages too (I have never done one before this year!)  I showed to pages I liked as well as the front of the journal.  I am super happy with how this turned out.

5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Small sample *with lots of pics* on: February 04, 2008 07:15:58 PM
I am trying to get better at card making...this is a small sample of what I have made in the last week (now, I need to get better at photographing them!)  I would love criticism (as I want to start selling some of these!)

And a baby shower invite I did for a friend:
Envelope:

Front (unopened)

Inside (ribbon is what held it together...)

6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Name and business idea on: January 15, 2008 10:36:54 AM
I know that there are a thousand people out there that want to start their own business.  I am not an original.  But...I still want to try.  I make cards, tags and small journals.  My focus is mostly papercrafts with stamping and handmade orginal watercolors.

My two questions:
1) Am I crazy to think anyone would want to see yet another handmade card?  I was thinking of starting on Etsy, but there is just so much out there.

2) I need a name.  I do not want to use my name in the business name.  I want a name that is simple, does not alude to just cards (so I can branch out if needed) but is not to trendy.  I was thinking of "Pumpkin Pie Designs"  It has a lot of personal meaning to me and seems simple, not too trendy, but does not alude to my cards at all.  I could make BC and brochures that show what I do...would that help.

I am new to this, but have some nice products and want some help getting started.  This site is wonderful, and I know all of you will be a huge help.  Tell me the truth...am I crazy (well, about this...not life in general.)?
7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / New Here on: January 03, 2008 07:01:29 PM
I am new to this forum...I have been lurking a while, but just decided to join.  I have recently (as in two days ago Grin ) started scrapbooking some pages.  I have done handmade cards for a while, and I do a lot of invites for friends, but this week did my first true scrapbook page.  I am pretty happy...a good fir for me (my three huge loves in crafting are photography, color and paper.  And I wonder why it took me so long.

Anyway, just wanted to get started with a post. I see a lot of amazing stuff here and though, since I was so new to it, I would start in this forum.
