I saw a hat like this and thought why buy one when I can make it  Cheesy  So I sat down and made a pattern, took three tries to get the brim size right, and here are the results:

That's a bike Tony the Tiger would love to have. Or is it flames? Sorry.

It is tiger stripes.  That was what he wanted, I thought he was wanting just plain black racing stripes, but he said "no Mom....like a tiger"  Cheesy

Hehe!! Thats cool  Cheesy  A Free bike for your dear son!!!  Great!!!!  But, why don't you buy a new one? Embarrassed
Kind of an odd question. Insinuates there is something wrong with a previously owned bike. I hesitate to buy a used adult bike because I've found out many of them are stolen. I've had all of my adult bikes stolen so I'm not interested in buying one at all. But for kids who outgrow them in a couple of years, used is the best way to go. Besides she got this one free and for a few dollars some spray paint to do a beautiful custom job. If her son had wanted to customize the paint job of one she just spent $100 of grocery money on it might not have gone well.
I love that she and her son created a beautiful bike together working within their budget. And as someone else said, they created memories together.
New isn't always best.
I suspect her son and she are getting more fun out of having this bike on craftster.org and the www than a new bike would have been.

Thank you, that was a most elegant reply.  That was similar to what I wanted to say, but  wasn't sure the best way to word it.

Angry
Because I can't afford one right now.  I am a working single mom, so taking $100 out of our grocery money to buy a bike is not an option.

Thanks for the comments.

I used spray paint for metal.  The black is actually the high-heat stuff for ovens and the like, because they only had the shiny black in that kind.  I sprayed it orange first and when it dried I took tiny strips of masking tape and blocked off the orange to leave the black stripes.  Next time I will remember to take the tires off first.

Oh and he told me it was the coolest bike in town

I guess this goes in here, feel free to move it mods if there is a better spot for it.

A few weeks ago, Aidan (my son) found his old bike.  He hadn't ridden one in 2 years and so it was a tad small for him.  However he was having a great time learning to ride it, and I had told him I would try to get him a new one for grading day.  Unfortunately, with my financial situation right now I can't afford the bike he really wants.

So yesterday we went to a few garage sales, and lo and behold, there was a bike for $2.00.  A steal as it was.  But it fit him perfectly, there was just one problem in his eyes.......it was purple with pink spatters. I convinced him it was something I could re-paint and that no one would know it had been purple.  I told him he could even pick the colour.  So he agreed and we went to pay for it and the guy said Aidan could have it, no charge Smiley

2 cans of spray paint and half a roll of masking tape later and here is Aidan's new bike:
