1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: FOC Second Chance Wishlist Rd 3 **Gallery** on: November 22, 2012 07:40:37 AM
Here's the lovely package I got from flyeraven in the mail yesterday!

A set of cute onesies with dinosaurs, to add to the small but growing stack of baby clothes I'm... about to need in a couple months. Wink

A huge set of hand-made greeting cards.  Now I'd better go write to people!

And an action shot of one of the two fingerless gloves (because it's very difficult to take pictures of both your hands at once.)  I was wearing both of them, really. Smiley

Thanks so much, flyeraven!

I'm in Maryland, and have stupid amounts of stalkable stuff-- see my profile or start here: swap info page.  Although a lot of it hasn't been updated very recently, so feel free to ask me as many questions as you want. Smiley

I'm allergic to tobacco-- and also pregnant!-- so if anybody in your house smokes, it might be better if you pick someone else.

*brightly colored (think basic crayon box, not pastels or pink) baby clothes.  Probably winter weight in newborn-like sizes & summer-weight in 6 month; beyond that I'm not sure it's safe to speculate. Smiley  Good themes include N American wildlife, realistic dinosaurs, or space.

*baby blankets, see color/theme suggestions above. We're set for afgans, & I'm working on a fancy quilt, but more basic things to wrap the kid in seem potentially useful. Smiley

*diaper supplies... I'm planning to go the fold & pin with a waterproof cover route, but don't have anything yet.  (and for transport I don't need a diaper bag, but wet packs would be good)

*a business card case, fairly small-form, to fit my 1/2 size cards.  They're 3.5"x1" and don't quite fit in any of the spare tins I have lying around. (phoey!)

*french press slippers or similar, size 7-or-so (ravelry link)

*I am a sucker for interesting yarn.  Handspun & fun textures are cool.  Or something soft, breathable & machine washable that would work for baby clothes.  Or I'd love a magic yarn ball, but only if you (& the organizers) don't mind if I don't unroll it for swap pictures, so I get the fun of discovering what all is in it while I'm making it into something.

*Also fond of gloves with 3/4 length fingers, or fingerless/long wrist warmers.  Size 7/medium.  Warm is good, but so are lacy/frilly bits, so have fun. Smiley

*some handmade tarot cards or an ATC-sized alphabet. (no need to make a whole deck unless you're inspired!)

*hand or machine embroidered patches I can applique onto stuff-- check out my stalkables for artistic inspiration. Smiley

*naturalistic yard art (wildlife, ceramic mushrooms, bird houses with small holes & no perch... no garden gnomes please!) or interesting wind chimes

*a shawl like the first one here: yay, multicolored! yarn ends are awesome! Smiley

*a fairly straight-sided, microwaveable, ceramic mug that holds about 20 oz of liquid.

*handmade, inside-blank, greeting cards

*something else fun that doesn't take up too much space, inspired by my wist (read the comments!) or etsy favorites Smiley
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: IYP 20 Winter Chillin Cotillion Gallery! on: May 16, 2012 07:52:27 PM
I just got a lovely angel package from Jemimah! Here's the loot:

Everything: a pretty little blue silk bag with flying bird silhouettes, 4 cards with stitched watercolors, a pair of hand-carved leaf stamps, a trio of knit leaf bowls, a little squeezy pouch which came stuffed with interesting buttons & a buckle, a little embroidered bee, a ceramic teabag holder, and (the main attraction Wink ) a really elegant embroidered cuff.

And a few close-ups:

of the cuff...

...pouch, leaf bowls, and buttons...

...and the bag.

Thanks so much, Jemimah!  These are all really beautiful work. Smiley

Ooh, I like the diagonal between the textures on those fingerless gloves-- pretty! Smiley

I've been asked to post pictures of what I sent, so here it is:

An embroidered stomacher panel (for that bit in the front of early 19th century dresses), a hand-made book (pages cut from various kinds of paper & bound with coptic stitch, covers made with wallpaper samples), and a doll-sized cameo choker.  Oh, and some ribbon extras, and while they're not in the picture, I filled the rest of the box with various sorts of tea.  Smiley

Close-up of the embroidery.  I left the edges unfinished so Ninja_poo could fit them to the dress she ends up making (and maybe bind it with co-ordinating ribbon or whatever), but now I'm sorry I didn't iron it before folding it back up to put in the box.  Oh well.

I wasn't worried but maybe should have been -
I'm gunna be a day late or so!   Undecided

Yeah, me too-- partly because I have an all-day class tomorrow that covers all the time the PO is open.  I miss living down the street from the regional post office that stays open until midnight.

Uh, wow-- I was just going to delurk (er, does it still count as lurking if you're actually in the swap?) and compliment the platypus couple (who are indeed excellent) but... that quilt!  Really, who sends an *entire hand-quilted quilt* in a swap box?  There should be some kind of awesomeness award for that.

Who else out there will spend more time crafting for others than you do for yourself?

I spend plenty of time *brainstorming* crafting for myself-- it's just that projects for other people usually have deadlines to finish by.

Speaking of which, I've decided on the main thing I'm making Ninja-Poo, and have Supplies!  Crafting shall commence shortly.
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / a necklace of beads and bone on: February 18, 2012 02:20:19 PM
I made this one for the Terri Windling benefit auction a few months back (and was pleased to see it fetch a decent donation, too!)

Auction description: Necklace strung with many and varied beads and snake vertebrae in fall or perhaps desert sunset colors (depending on how you choose to see these things.)  Approximately 21" with off-center hand-made copper clasp, plus pendant bottle.  The beads include several stones (amber, tiger eye, and something red that looks a bit like pressed rose petals), glass, metal, and wood.  The pendant includes a slice of antler as a stop, and a corked bottle for you to fill with your own wishes or dreams.
