I'm pretty thrilled with how it turned out. Smiley

Great work! They look brill and I have NO idea how you got a natural dye to stick to turmeric..and you didn't even use a MORDANT?

Heads up on turmeric though..I've dyed with it using alum as a mordant, on wool...and it is NOT lightfast. It faded from bright bright bright yellow gold to pale buff after only an hour or two in the sun. Beautiful colour but for anything that is exposed to the sun..it's not worth it Sad there are other natural dyes you can use that make yellow that won't fade, but they're not as readily accessable as turmeric

Wow, thanks for sharing that; I didn't know that they would fade in the sun. I will try to keep them out of the sunlight from now on I guess. Smiley

I love the UFO! As a space enthusiast, I find it very cool. Great job!

Thank you everyone! Here are some more details on the socks:

1. How-to(ish): I used about... 1/8th of a cup to about 2 quarts of water to dye the yarn. First, I heated up the water. Then, I mixed in the turmeric. I then added my hanks of yarn and stirred them around for a bit in the scalding water. I turned the heat down to low and let them simmer for a while (maybe an hour or two?). I took the yarn out and hung it to dry.

2. To be honest, I didn't really think the color would stay. But it did! I just washed them normal cycle, with colors, and their color did not fade at all, which I am ecstatic about!

3. For about a month or two after, they smelled delicious. Unfortunately, I had to put them aside due to other responsibilities. When I recovered them, the no longer held the scent. Sad Bummer.

Again, thank you for all of the feedback! I really really appreciate it, like, mucho!

Ps. These were made using the free pattern Twinkle Toes by Cookie A. It can be found on Ravelry.

Pps. Colors in real life most resemble the last picture.

So, I just finished my 3rd-ish pair of socks. They are made from some unidentified acrylic white yarn that I dyed with the spice turmeric. I love them, and I hope you do too!
