I'm so sorry about the feltification!  It's awesome that you can laugh about it.  Your daughter looks adorable.  Good luck with your future projects and keep laughing.  Smiley

Right on, Celeste!  Keep on knitting.  You did a fabulous job, and you should be so proud of it!  It's awesome that your first finished item is a gift for a friend.

Look at you go go go with your scarves!  You knit nice and fast.  Pretty results!  I'm sure your sister is delighted!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Making gnome hat...felting? on: January 03, 2008 12:45:13 PM

Thanks for the advice for the fiber arts section.  Swatch...yeah!  It's amazing how much clearer things are when someone else says it.  (I'm recovering from surgery and last night I couldn't sleep.  Perhaps, not the best time for questions.)  I totally forgot about a test swatch.

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Making gnome hat...felting? on: January 03, 2008 12:51:17 AM
I have a ton of worsted weight soft luscious yarn.  I've been mulling over hat options, and now I'm thinking...gnome hats!

The Peanut has, like her mother, a "slightly larger than average" noggin.  Hence, I make a 4-7 year old hat for my 2 year old.  I've never felted before, so I don't know what to expect of shrinkage.

I was thinking of doing this pattern:
since the pattern indicates it's pretty forgiving, then felt and see what happens...

Thoughts?  Tips or tricks?  Should I work it in the ribbing or, since it's going to be felted, just work in...garter?

I fear the nubbles, but not so much that I'm not moving this to my next item to knit!

I'm love love loving the colors.  Congrats on your first FO!

I think it looks great without the border, but I also agree that homespun is the devil (I just can't work with it!)
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Wool Longies/Diaper Cover on: January 02, 2008 11:49:34 PM
I finally finished Peanut's most recent pair of longies.  She is growing so fast.

I used the Little Turtle Knit's Picky Pants pattern:

The yarn is hand dyed by deliciouspear in the Melee colorway

I love the funky color pooling that happens with this kind of yarn.

Your soaker is awesome!  My first non scarf FO was that very soaker.  It's a great pattern.  Knittinghelp.com helped me with everything I needed to know.  I just finished another pair of longies tonight.  Must photograph.

My kitchener stitich is still wonky...It's basically doing what you did.  The crotch looks just fine!

You have every reason to be mad proud of that fine FO!  Go you!

I'm a nurse, so the blood and guts speak to me, as well!  Smiley

I'm on the mend, and actually catching up on some knitting!
