21  you call it ghetto, I call it brillaint :D Hello Kitty decorations in Winter Holidays by RCKFELLA on: December 05, 2009 02:27:51 PM
I finally put up my xmas tree last night and now that i'm out of the hello kittly closet I decided I wanted to deck it out in HK decorations. the only problem is taht they're expensive as hell. they had a set of 6 mini spheres at target for like $7. and i wasn't having it. so what's a poor girl to do? well first i taped a couple different HK ribbons together to make one long "garland". then i added some pink spheres i had from last xmas. but it needed something more. I wanted to make those cookie cutout decorations but that was too involved. so instead i got some fondant i had leftover from a project, rolled it out to 1/4" thickness, stamped HK on it, then used my mini HK cookie cutter to cut it out. I let them dry over night and then threaded some ribbon so I could hang them from my tree. I added a little skirt to the bottom, slapped a HK sticker on a pink glitter star and crowned my tree Cheesy

now onto the pics [sorry for the poor webcam quality! i was too lazy to use a real cam]

my HK tree in all its glory!

I made these last night for my brother's girlfriend's mom who was throwing a baby shower. we had settled on two dozen but it turns out the cupcake tree she had had 35 holders so she called me last night at around 10 pm for an extra dozen. i was almost done with them so i started freaking out but i found a mix of vanilla and she said that was fine, whew!

these were chocolate with chocolate buttercream and fondant lion faces

red velvet with cream cheese frosting

and the last minute batch of vanilla with the left over chocolate buttercream

thanks for looking Cheesy

23  It's the most wonderful time of the yeeeeeearrr! :P in Completed Projects by RCKFELLA on: October 07, 2009 07:10:40 PM
In Karen-Land, that song would be about Halloween Wink

anywho, my mom saw this picture http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKZN0vvZ0os/SrL8-OccnII/AAAAAAAAAU8/75a4vkb3lJc/s400/6-Easy-Halloween-Crafts_featured_article_628x371.jpg in a Country Living magazine [I think] and ever since she's been obsessed with re-creating it for Halloween and this year we finally did it.

This is our rendition of it, and, not to toot my own horn but I like it much better than the original Tongue

my dad made the wooden base and stuck a tree branch and spray painted it all black

I quickly sewed some baggies together and did random halloween designs on them with black acrylic and a toothpic haha. I also did the little bat silhouettes and added the little mice at the bottom as well

my dad suggested placing some of these crows/birds on it to make it creepier

how cute are these?? my dad planted some pumpkin seeds last month and now we're using the pumpkins as decoration for the season Smiley

so that's it, hope you guys like it and happy halloween!

24  i've come out of the closet in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by RCKFELLA on: September 22, 2009 11:24:18 PM
for years and years i tried to hide and deny my love for hello kitty because i was ashamed but i've decided to stop hiding and be my true self! Tongue so now that i'm out, i made this HK bow to celebrate. I was inspired by the Hello Kitty house/hotel/not sure http://www.random-good-stuff.com/2009/06/11/hello-kitty-house-in-shanghai/. I made this bow out of a cardboard box i had lying around. I love it but my only qualm is that the black acrylic is shiny and the pink is flat. I was going to put it on the corner of my window but i think it looks much cuter on my fabric cabinet. i might add her other features like eyes and whiskers but this is what i have for now. hope you guys like it!

26  cakes i made in class in Dessert by RCKFELLA on: August 13, 2009 03:05:34 AM
I took the Wilton one course and these are the cakes I made for every session.

this was the first one. It's vanilla with berry filling and vanilla buttercream. I was so rushed and pressed for time and I didn't even bring bowls for mixing the colors and it was all just a mess but it turned out alright... The colors were supposed to be red, yellow, green, and purple but that didn't quite happen Tongue The taste was delish tho!

this second one was my favorite in the way it looked. These were my first roses EVER and I was quite proud Tongue

the flavor was chocolate with orange buttercream. sooooooo good!

this picture CRACKS ME UP. my little cousins were visiting and I had them try the cake and the look on their faces just kills me. They look so sad and they're about to eat cake! Kids these days... so hard to please.

this was my final cake. i don't know how great i feel about the decorating but the taste was out of this world!

it was red velvet with cream cheese frosting aka heaven in my mouth.

lastly you can go to my post on this to see more pics and my thoughts on the class

27  Sea themed cupcakes in Dessert by RCKFELLA on: August 10, 2009 01:29:29 AM
I made these yesterday for my little cousin's birthday. The theme was the Little Mermaid but since I'm not a pro at fondant I decided to avoid the embarrassment of attempting to make Ariel or Sebastian and just made generic sea creatures. It was my first time doing candy in molds and now that i've tried it i don't know what i think about them... they're kind of bleh to me. anyway 12 cupcakes ended up not being enough so we got a store bought cake last minute. oh and ps everything is from a box [cake, frosting, fondant] i was SO NOT in the mood to make anything from scratch, thank god for boxed shit Tongue regardless i had a lot of fun making them and i thought they were pretty adorable if i do say so myself

awwwww they're kind of cute!

these are the candy ones... I wish they would've been a third of the size

the cutie octopus 'inspired'/copied from ConsumedbyCake's cupcakes http://www.flickr.com/photos/consumedbycake/3734435187/

the crab was the easiest and everyone's favorite Cheesy

maybe the shells were my favorite? hahah i just had a lot of fun making everything. I have tons more pics and a step by step of the shells on my blog: http://lifelalife.blogspot.com/2009/08/under-sea-under-sea.html

I'm kind of glad we got a cheapo store bought cake that took the spotlight away from the cupcakes because it kind of made me nervous!

hope you guys like them Smiley

28  mason jar lanterns in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by RCKFELLA on: August 06, 2009 04:59:56 PM
the latest project at my house are the mason jar lanterns. My mom and i 'helped' by giving our input Tongue although my dad basically did all the work cuz the wire is super hard to bend

this is what they look like in the daylight... it's really hard to get a nice night time picture cuz i have such a crappy camera Sad

the handle is all just one long piece of copper wire. [my dad swears he's Kieth Richards  Cheesy]

and now onto the night time pics...

with the garage light on... i think it helped a little?

i can't decide whether we should line the other side of the path with lanterns. what do you guys think, is it overkill?

ah! thanks for the feedback. so i like it but i'm not crazy about it. it's good with peanut butter though. the rest of my fam wasn't too open to it. [they still can't get past me eating fried eggs with peanut butter, creeps!]

HandsyMalone yeah its SUPER easy and inexpensive to make, although i dont think i would've made it had i not seen veganyumyum's vid because then i knew what to expect

thanks for the video!

you're so sweet, thanks!  Cheesy

30  my big F.U. to urbanoutfitters gone wrong... in Quilting: Completed Projects by RCKFELLA on: August 02, 2009 05:06:17 PM
i saw a super cute quilt on UO last summer that was just a bunch of random squares and almost fell of my chair when i saw it was $150. so since i had just reorganized my stash of fabric i decided i didn't need no UO quilt and that i could make my own. I had made my first one in the winter and was feeling high and mighty about it. well it was no walk in the park. i honestly don't know how you ladies do it. this is back breaking work and it's not even that intricate! anywho somewhere along the way i either cut or sewed something wrong and towards the end the patches were all mix matched and not aligned and it was just a nightmare that i started thinking maybe $150 isnt so bad if it's going to spare me all this labor! but now its done and the more i see it the more i like it Cheesy
