1  Re: Show me your Christmas tree! in Winter Holidays by kittenana on: December 12, 2009 09:18:53 PM
Here's our tree. My husband wanted black ornaments and I chose purple to go with it.

I thought that the topper I had picked out looked a little blah, so I added feathers that happened to match the color scheme. I think my new motto is "When in doubt, add feathers".

2  Re: 2007 Completed Costumes Scrapbook! (completed project pictures & links go here!) in Halloween Costumes by kittenana on: September 16, 2008 04:33:58 PM
I found a disposable camera that had been lying around for about a year and it happened to contain pictures from last year's Halloween party.  My husband is Dr. Acula (we're both big Scrubs fans) and I am his victim/nurse.

I made my dress by tracing a shirtdress I had bought at Target and improvised the hat from scraps of the dress fabric.  I ordered a labcoat from a scrubs supply catalog and had Dr. Acula embroidered on it.

3  My Lucky Thirteen wedding crafts (Picture-pukey) in Weddings and Bridal Showers by kittenana on: July 08, 2008 08:05:42 PM
My love and I are getting married on July 13, 2008 and I thought I'd share some of the stuff my mom and I made and/or decorated.

My mom made this tree pretty much on a whim; the birds were 50% off, so my mom just had to get them.  I'm not sure exactly where it's going to go, but we'll find a place for it.

Here's my bouquet:

And the bridesmaids' bouquets:

A corsage and a boutonniere (we made 4 corsages and 7 boutonnieres total)

Favor boxes - I had some cute gift boxes, but they were too big and only came in olive green or burnt orange.  So I bought one, shrunk it on the copier, and traced it onto cardstock over sixty times (not to mention cutting out, rubber stamping, and assembling all sixty-some boxes).  These will hold amaretto fortune cookies.

The card box - This was actually meant for holding plants, but I thought it was cute enough to hold cards.  My mom did all the beadwork to make it a little more wedding-y.

My garter - I wanted a garter that was little more burlesque-y than what I was finding online, so I decided to make one.  I found a basic black lace garter on clearance at Hot Topic after Valentine's Day and embellished it with marabou, ribbon, and a charm.

Centerpiece - The result of 50% off sales at Hobby Lobby and gift boxes from the after-christmas clearance section of Costplus.

And lastly, my kitty Yo-Yo supervising the photoshoot.

We also made my dress and the bridesmaids' dresses, ties and pocket squares for the groom and groomsmen, and the caketopper.  I'll post pictures of this stuff after the wedding.

4  Re: fun gifts to "ask" friends to be in my wedding? in Weddings and Bridal Showers by kittenana on: April 11, 2008 08:32:43 PM
Cootie catchers are those paper fortune-teller things where you count to a certain number or spell out a color until you get to the inside flap to reveal your fortune.

You could put the same message in a fortune cookie.

5  Ballroom Dancing Gown in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by kittenana on: March 16, 2008 10:24:31 PM
I was asked to make a dress for my future sister-in-law to wear for a showcase in which she and her dad would dance a father/daughter waltz.

The entire thing

6  Valentine Collage for my Fiance in Valentine's Day by kittenana on: February 16, 2008 09:54:01 PM
For Valentine's Day, I decided to replace the collage I had made my fiance for our first anniversary.  The original was a last-minute idea, so the pictures were printed on regular computer paper and held onto the board with sewing pins.  I finally got around to making a proper one, using photo paper, foamcore, and rubber cement.  For some reason, after I glued the pictures on, the top layer of the foamcore came off the foam layer, so now it's basically a piece of posterboard, but my fiance still loves it!
