1  Re: Fiber Friday 2.20.09! We love Fiber, yes we do! in Spinning: Completed Projects by cloudlover on: February 21, 2009 09:39:09 AM
*peeks into thread* I haven't posted here in FOREVER!  I've been spinning, but not as much as I used to and I never photograph it once it's done... but THIS week, I got my act together!

Cupid & Psyche, spun from Hobbledehoy batts, plied with clear thread, thick & thin with random coils:

Mrchengarten, spun from my Falkland roving, a worsted/light bulky self striping single:

OMG, ok, I'm going to try Navajo plying this weekend.  That yarn is just too beautiful.

I have done next to no spinning this past week, due to being busy with house cleaning and stuff.  But I carded a ton of batts on my new Strauch Petite last week and finally got pics of them.  I did some more last night, it is SO addicting!

Hooray for Halloween yarn!  I need to try supercoils sometime soon...

SO, this past weekend, I bought a drum carder at the WI Sheep & Wool fest.  I really can't stop talking about my trip there!  Here are the two yarns I've spun so far using my own carded batts!

Summer Squash batts- merino w/ bronze sparkle:

Yarn, plied w/ gold thread:

Dead or Alive batt, containing merino, falkland, wool ends, sparkle in various colors and a pinch of silk noil:

Yarn, spun as a single, thick and thin:

I'll post more batts on the board when I get a good setup to take pics... the ones I carded the past two nights are quite glamorous Wink

Lamina, those are BEAUTIFUL pictures! Yarn and books, two of my favorite things!

I shouldn't be on here, I should be packing for Sheep & Wool fest, but I've neglected FF for far too long.  Here are just a couple of the skeins I've finished recently.  I'm getting really bad at photographing stuff- I blame the shorter days & lack of natural light Sad

"Dead But Dreaming", spun from my new R'lyeh colorway, this one in Falkland wool:

"Echinacea", a bulky fluffy slightly fulled Falkland single:

I promise to post more next week!

5  Re: Fiber of the Month of July! Swap Gallery ! in The Swap Gallery by cloudlover on: August 28, 2008 05:41:00 AM
It is comming your way! I'm guessing it's flying over the ocean now as we speak.

I haven't decided yet if I'll be spinning of felting the beautiful wool you sent me.
I just bought the lovely book "Intertwined" to help me out in my spinning.
What a shock to see my etsy store referenced!

Intertwined is like the spinning Bible.  I LOVE it!!  And congrats on your shop being in there!

I got your package the other day and it is one of the most gorgeous batts I have ever seen!

I was actually speechless when I pulled it out!  Now will I have the guts to spin it?!  I almost just want to frame it and put it on my wall!
I'm really excited to spin these and watch all the colors swirl together! Sooo soft.

Thanks so much!!!

I've been really bad at keeping up with photographing/posting my handspun.  There have been many in the past couple of weeks, but here are a few:

Cyprus, about 100 yards or so, kinda bulky, from merino that i dyed:

Little Star, from Fatcatknits merino/bamboo roving, about 100 yards, bulky:

Black Amber, from my dyed merino:

I've been super busy with dying- here is everything I did last Saturday!

Ok now I'm going to go drool all over everyone else's stuff!  Cheesy

7  lots o' roving in Dyeing: Completed Projects by cloudlover on: August 10, 2008 04:09:23 PM
Here is a fraction of what I did over this weekend.  I really like trying the same colorways over again- they are a little different every time, especially on different kinds of wool.  So far I'm only using merino, falkland and BFL.  I'd LOVE to get some merino blends, like merino/bamboo, etc...

Ok, Jadzeea has mad spinning skillz.  ANd I LOVE Grape Jelly.  Now I want some toast and jelly... hmm...

Here are my three, I think this is all I managed to get done this past week.

Surf, my first ever two-ply bamboo.  From Fiberlady and WhimzyPinzy on Etsy.  4 ounces, about 50 yards- bamboo is dense stuff!  But I swear it spins faster than anything else.  I've got another matching skein on the bobbins, waitin to be plied:

Aeroplane Flies High- two ply merino that I dyed while listening to lots of Smashing Pumpkins.  110 yards, 5 oz or so:

Waves Become Wings- from Hobbledehoy batts!  I added a bit more white merino as I spun them, then plied it with clear thread.  SUPER bulky and squishtastic; it might be my favorite yarn ever!

Ok, back to the dye pots... Wink

I really like Mimosa, Sunnyside, and Jadzeea's blue SSB!

Here's a sampling from the past couple of weeks:

Cloud Lover, falkland single with big poofy white "cloud" cocoons!  No idea how to knit this in a way that doesn't smash the poofs:

Luna, spun from Fatcatknits merino/bamboo roving- sooo pretty and soft:

Maison Moderne, self striping merino:

Sno-Cone, floofy merino single:

I spun a mini skein of cotton, but i used it to tie up my tomato plants.   Tongue

10  weekend of roving! in Dyeing: Completed Projects by cloudlover on: July 27, 2008 07:42:08 PM
I did a mammoth dye session yesterday- here are just a few of the rovings I dyed up!

I didn't post any handspun on Fiber Friday this week, but I think this makes up for it!
