1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Saw it, Needed it, Made it on: February 18, 2012 08:40:38 PM
Cute!  The lining looks neat enough in the pic.  The colour looks very different in the 2 pics, though, at least on my monitor.  Is the crocheted exterior light or dark blue?
2  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: 23 new AI2 diapers for my boys. .. on: March 12, 2008 10:07:24 PM
SO impressed.  Just when I was feeling proud of myself for making fitteds & recycled woollies... :-)))
3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Baby sock monkey costume, made of socks! on: March 12, 2008 10:01:41 PM
SO proud of myself!!!

We have a dress-up holiday next week (we're Jewish, it's called Purim :-))).

Anyway, I have been making & obsessing over sock monkeys & decided that ds2, 6 months, should dress up as one... and of course, the best way to look like a sock monkey is to be made of socks.

So here's the result, created from 9 dollar-store socks.  No hat yet; I'm actually leaning towards a hood.  Thanks to Big Purple Bunny for modelling!  ;-)

It actually looks great in the pictures... in real life, it's a bit, um, rectangular, but thankfully, I have a serger, so the seams aren't going to be popping or anything drastic!  :-)))

Here's a "before" picture first - socks cut up and laid face-down on the table.

I serged across the heel so there wouldn't be visible white lumps all over the costume.  Instead, there is a seam on each half of each side of the body.  I think it's actually pretty discreet.

Hey, just wondering - what book is it???  I'd love to get obsessed too!  Do you find the duct tape wrecks your scissors, though?

Beautiful!  Gotta start scouring my local value village for nice placemats to make into totes!!!
(p.s. my sister is also a Sara-no-h!)
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / PICS FIXED Silver trap duct tape messenger, ETA wallet! on: February 26, 2008 12:57:39 PM
ETA:
Now there's a wallet!  Basic billfold wallet based on instructable here with clear-panel ID holder and fold-out photos (of me & my family!) added.  I also added a wallet-holding pocket just inside the purse.  FINALLY, I stuck a velcro dot on the closure of the wallet and the purse itself:

(still having problems getting Google to provide a permanent URL for pics!  For full album, click here)

Birthday prezzie for my sister... hopefully, I'll get either a regular wallet or a magic wallet done in the next day or two to add in with it DONE!!!  Seeing other people's snazzy projects, I'm kind of questioning my decision to do it in basic silver, but I still like the look... :-)))

The purse is divided inside and has a slide-in 100% duct tape closure.  Thinking of adding a velcro dot at the end just for reinforcement...

NOTE:  I completed this during a single kids' naptime... so if it looks kind of crappo, be aware that I am home with a baby & a toddler and often two big kids also!

PLEASE lmk if you can't see the pictures as Google is being flaky!

ETA:  Just realized I did it completely upside-down from this one, which was my inspiration...

Hey, that's cute!  Just came here to post my own silvery duct tape bag... yours is way brighter than mine.  Makes me pine for spring.  :-)))
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / TWO birthday sock projects... elephant and Baby Beluga (whale) on: February 16, 2008 10:17:31 PM
(pictures are acting flaky; PLEASE lmk if they don't come out...)

The elephant is for my sister, who's just turned 30.  The whale (a baby beluga, because we are all loving the Raffi song around here right now) is for my daughter, who'll be 3 on Monday.

All socks are from the dollar store, bringing the total cost of both projects to about $5... maybe a bit more including stuffing.  :-)))

The elephant (full album here) was SOoooo hard.  Lessons learned:  legs should be shorter than for a monkey; trunk must descend more "downward" from the face, not stick out forwards.  Still, from some angles, I'm pretty pleased with her... (my sister's name is Sara - that's what the S on her cape stands for).

And then, to make up for the difficulty of elephant, the whale was super-easy.  I mean, it's a short white sock from the dollar store... it looks like a baby beluga anyway.  Full album of pics here, but here are 2 angles:

I'm pretty new to stuffed critters, so again, thrilled that I could undertake not one but TWO projects successfully!!!  :-)))
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: NEW PICS ADDED!!! Diaper and Wipes Bag with Matching Zip Lock Baggie on: February 05, 2008 10:30:22 PM
Those look great!  I have seen those "Diapers & Wipees" cases selling for more than $15... I always think "what a waste", for a basic lined pouch...
(I haven't made one only bc we use cloth for both, so they are a bit bulkier...)
