Hi everyone! I finally decided to get a tattoo (my firssssssst ), and I want to get a Owl on the back of my neck (not so original as a placement I know, but I need something that I can show and hide, even if I'm 20 I don't want my parents to see that everytime). I want an Owl because it rapresents wisdom, because i love night birds, because it remembers me of my past studies in high school (liceo classico in Italy, where you study ancient Greek and Latin, and the little owl it's the symbol of Athena) and because I want to celebrate my studies to become a Vet (would like to work with wild animals)... it has a lot of meanings to me as you can see. My problem is...would it be better to have a realistic picture (like the reproduction of a real photo) or something more "graphic", like a drawing made by me? I want it in B\W , for the size I was thinking maybe 10\12 cm high (4\5inches more or less). I would also like to have my owl sitting on a half moon, i think that it would be nice and "poetic"... Any suggestion? What do you think? here's some pics that I like (links because i prefer not to show that on the main page, as it's not something I made) realistic pictures (something like these but with a half moon instead of the tree) http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9774/athenenoctua000dp8.jpg http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=borealowldf8.jpg drawings (not by me, always imagine the owl sitting on a half moon) http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/378/esmeowliv5.jpg http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/7623/immaginepag78sd4.gif I would also like something like that, with the owl sitting on a tree with a fool or half moon on the back, maybe with "Athene noctua" written inside the moon http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/6859/noctuann8.gif
I made a very usefull case for my makeup brushes, I've got tons of them because I use mineral make up. Nothing particularly fancy, just plain black cotton with withe stitches and a with elastic to hold my brushes (I've got some more but can't find them, and my short-handed kabuki doesn't look good in this case, so it's not pictured ) I've seen something similar here on craftster for crochet hooks and for pencils, so I don't want to take credit for the idea
Back (it looks uneven because it's filled with brushes)
OK, I don't know if it's exactly the right place to post it, but I don't know where to put it.
My dog turned 13 on January, 19th, so I decided to make a huuuuuuge party for him ...in the end I just made him a *cake* and gave him a new ball
The cake is basically pet food with dog bisquits I made my self and molded in a "13" shape, little sticks and balls. The bisquits are made with eggs and flour, that's all, on the net there's a recipe (don't remember the link) with honey and malt too, but I didn't want to add all those sweet things.
So nothing special, but I wanted to share and he liked it!
inspired by this topic http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=217771.0 so nothing original at all, but I found this so nice I suddenly wanted to make my own! I don't have resin (never used it before, I wanted to give it a try but my craft shop will be closed for a couple of weeks)(poor poor poor me, without the craft shop ), so I used transparent fimo. It looks a bit opaque, but if you polish it with a couple of coats of UV-responsive nail polish (transparent polish it's ok too, but the UV responsive just looks better) it gets quite as shiny and transparent as resin (off course you must avoid making thick coats of it, or it'll get irremediably opaque) The pink one with stars, hook and eye closure (ahah) and the owl (yes again!) designed by me is mine, while the one with monnalisa, gold glitters and little polyclay leaves is supposed to be given away as a gift to a friend of mine who helped me a lot with my first exam at university...but I like it soooo much!
It's not so easy to take pictures of them...grrrrrr... I promise this is my last post for today this is my first (and last...damned exams!) free day, so I post my projects now that I have the time
So I'm not only obsessed with owls, I'm also obsessed with snoopy and woodstock (I love animals...thats probably why I'm studying in order to become a vet) Love love this dog! The fist one was overcooked (ehm) and I needed to paint it white.Black details are painted with...nail polish The dog house I's made of heavy and thick felt
these are some of my creations made with beads in the past years, hope you like 'em! All together:
A purple and black ring made with sort of swarosky beads
Victorian necklace with a very nice heart pendant
Victorian neck lace with a semiprecious hard stone of some sort (don't know what stone is it)...I love this one!
Victorian (yes again!) neck lace with stone leaves and very nice crystal beads
Sort of charm bracelet with green stones and a lot of beads and stuff of every kind (a nice way to use all that spared little beads)(I've been making dozens of them, I can post pictures if you're interested)
Purple necklace with amethyst and swarosky hearts
Thanks to my fabulous owl candle for modelling them for me
Yes I'm obsessed with owls, and I'm proud of it lol BTW, this I a broach I recently made out of felt scraps. It's stuffed with something that used to be inside of a cushion (reusing to his max ), the borders are sewed using an enormous needle and light purple wool (you can probably recognize it, it's from my previous scarf+hat project...this broach is intended to go on the scarf in order to match the owl applique on the beanie) Hope you like it!
this is the first time I actually finish a scarf, I usually crochet only round things (hats and similar) because I tend to make mistakes and "lose" stitches (don't know how to explain), so my scarves usually look horrible with zig zag borders This scarf matches a hat i previously posted here
so....this is finally done! I called this shOwl because of the picture of an owl I tried to crochet in the centre of this shawl. I used the Fillet technique (I don't know if this has the same name in English), and a very soft yarn in a vibrant purple, it is the biggest thing I've ever crocheted, and was made completely free hand, without any pattern ,and I'm in love with it! it's actually pretty small, so I guess I should add a couple of rows all around it. Comments are appreciated!
So, here's my new pencil case It's made with a piece of fabric with the symbol of my university, the "alma mater studiorum" of Bologna, Italy. Nothing fancy, just a plain big pencil case with zipper Front (my camera acts like a mirror, so obviously letters are mirrored (does this word exist? ) Back(the design on the fabric here it's upside-down, because I used only one piece fabric and folded it in order not to lose the entire symbol) Inside detail, I used a raw fabric with flowers (with random stuff )
