1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Crochet Star and Snowdudes Ornaments on: December 24, 2010 09:18:02 AM
I turned myself into a crocheting machine the last week and finished a large amount of ornaments for co-workers and family members. These star ones in basic cotton, are from a free pattern from Caron and were super easy - just 4 rounds. I cranked out the middle of the motif (first three rds) and then finished them off on the bus commute. For such simple items, they were very well received and peeps loved them - I liked the idea for work, because the shape is generic enough for any religion or lack thereof, and could be used outside of Christmas if someone didn't celebrate it.

The Caron pattern: http://www.caron.com/projects/ss/star_ornament.html

I did the rainbow ones for the lesbian contingent at work. They were happy to get a pride-themed item that was both Christmas-y and subtle, plus able to be used outside of tree decorating.

I also did these snowmen - just a basic white circle, glued on a felt nose, fabric paint for eyes/mouth, and then just did different circle-based motifs for the background (glue the face on).

2  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / First non-flat FO - The Golden Snitch! on: February 19, 2009 09:58:59 AM
So far while learning crochet I have done mainly scarves, circles, and granny squares. I decided I needed to give a non-flat object a try, since it has been intimidating me, so I decided to try the free snitch pattern from Inner Child Crochet (http://www.innerchildcrochet.com/patterns/the_golden_snitch.php) as a cat toy.

It's not perfect, but dang, I made it! This is also the first time I have tried to sew crochet pieces together, so that was an adventure, but I def. learned from the experience. Tips to improve/suggestions totally welcome, as I am trying to use this as a learning experience!

Obviously, Fatty is a beater for Team Kitty (just don't give him any drug tests, he is doping with spray catnip on his snitch!).

Things I was unhappy with: what to do with the ends from sewing the wings on and the lumpiness/in your face seams for the wings.

3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Suddenly crocheting triple (?) and in the round...? on: January 12, 2009 11:37:17 PM
Hi all!

I am new to crochet (as in like...24 hours old hah). I did a search to try to find an answer to my question, but did not see anything.

Basically, I have been practicing doing a sc stitch and I think I have the idea. However, when I am going to the new row especially, I seem to have random stitches that have 3 loops to pull the stitch through instead of the two, and I am not sure why. Anyone have any idea if there is a common mistake that causes this to happen?

Also, as I am just practicing doing the sc, I am ending up with round items that are turning into bowl-like shapes. I mean, I was kinda happy because I see people get annoyed they can't crochet in the round and there I was, but I def. was not intending to. Any idea what would be a common mistake that would make you end up with a rounded product?

At least I have my first finished object, a totally mishappen ball that is now stuffed with polyfil for the cats - they LOVE IT because it is sprayed with catnip.
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Both partners not sending/communicating? on: October 07, 2008 11:13:48 AM
Quick question in case anyone has some experience...

If a pair of swappers both are not sending and not communicating, what should be done? I poked around a bit, and it doesn't seem like an angeling situation since no one sent, and getting 'replacement' partners doesn't seem to make sense, since neither are communicating. I have tried contacting both of them many times with no response after the initial responses that promised send dates.

For awhile they were both stating they were sending at similar times and then simultaneously dropped out of contact. They have both had negative feedback for a long time.

Not sure what to do in this situation and any help would be appreciated, thanks.
5  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Fullmetal Alchemist goblets on: July 17, 2008 08:50:57 PM
Hi all!

This is nothing too special, but I was pretty happy with it. I had given up the armor etch after a disastrous experience with it in my very first swap, but I decided to grab the bottle one more time and try it out. I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I printed the logos out on paper and then cut it out on contact paper and then etched it. I had tried the puffy paint method before, but my hand is just too unsteady to do that, so the contact paper method worked better for me.

I made these in an angel package for the adult swim swap.

8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Superhero/comics swap? on: May 11, 2008 05:24:42 PM
Hey all!

I love comics big time, and looked for swaps in the genre and noticed there does not appear to have been a general one since maybe 2006! EeK! I was wondering if anyone was interested in doing one? Esp. with the plethora of comic-based movies coming out this summer, I thought it might be fun!

I had toyed with the idea of going girl power with all-female characters swap, but that may be too restricted, so not sure how folks feel about that idea? Sadly, most of the movies this summer do not feature female "hero" characters, with the exception of Hellboy II's Liz Sherman.  Cry

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Metalocalypse Murderface Needlebook on: May 07, 2008 01:08:39 PM
My fabulous partner Ghilie had mentioned she wanted a needlebook in the Adult Swim swap, so I had to oblige with the most brutal needlebook ever, Murder Needles! I decided to post it up as a separate project, as that was the first thing I had really made large-scale with felt and it was learning how to make a new thing, so I was happy with how it turned out.

I did Murderface's murder-face and murder-fro in felt, and then made a tiny freezer paper stencil for the facial details. I stenciled the text on the felt, and then sandwiched some cardboard on either side and steam-a-seamed it all together. This was sadly before I had any of the web stuff and I did it all with the 1/4 inch stuff, hopefully it will survive! I then just put a skull bead on a photoclip and attached it to close, just to give it a more 'metal' vibe.

10  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Felt Octopus Wall Plate on: March 28, 2008 07:09:53 PM
My bathroom has nothing on the wall yet, so I wanted to toss something up there. I had bought a dinner plate for cheap from Target and I had some felt, so I figured I could do something with them! It's all felt except the button eyes. I just cut out all of the shapes in felt and glued them on so parts were still a bit loose to bend out some to make it more 3-D-ish.
