1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Remove labels from cigar box? on: October 25, 2008 03:36:14 PM
Hallo!

I'm actually trying to make a cigar box ukulele, but I know a lot of people use cigar boxes to make purses, so....

What is a good way to remove a label and keep it intact from a cigar box? The box I'm using is vintage so the glue will be old; I'd really like to remove the label and glue it on the outside for decoration.

Thanks for looking!

2  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / My first hat on: December 18, 2007 10:15:07 PM
I used to have a great natural coloured beret, but somewhere along the lines a washing machine ate it. This is my attempt at a recreation. I pretty much just crocheted a big spiral, then made it decrease. Since I didn't really know how to decrease at the time (or maybe tried to do it too quickly), I ended up with a cool open-space lace design at the bottom.

My friend who is a fashion designer (chema-d.com) loves this hat and tried to steal it! Go figure...
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Heidi Ear Muffs on: December 18, 2007 10:09:11 PM
This is my first crochet design! I hate the way hats mess up my hair and wanted some cute earmuffs. I get a zillion compliments on them, and so I made versions in pink and gave them to my bandmates for holiday gifts. I am now soooo popular! ;-)

To make it, I used Caron ww acrylic yarn. I can't write patterns yet, but here's the jist of it:

Chain 13 loosely (I use a 5.5mm hook). Single crochet every chain (this makes one row). Make about 28 more rows, bind off. For the ear pieces, I did four chains and joined them. I then made a spiral about 3.75" wide with a double crochet stitch. Near the end, I switch to hdc, then sc. Bind, then make a chain about 8" long. I sewed the ear pieces on to the head piece with a sewing machine (very small straight stitch) going around the earpieces, and then in a slightly curved line near the top of the ear pieces. I then (sacrilege!) trimmed away the excess corners from the headpiece part.

Hope you like it!
4  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / One skein scarf! on: December 18, 2007 09:07:10 PM
I made this scarf so quickly! It only took 1/2 an evening. This is the first crochet pattern I have done, and it was so easy! The scarf isn't perfect because I didn't have the right size needles. I used a 5.5mm needle for both the chaining and the rest, so the it curves a bit and the shells are smaller than in The Happy Hooker. I used Red Heart acrylic ww yarn. I still think it turned out well, and I'm giving it to my mom for the holidays.

5  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Spring in Winter Hat! on: December 18, 2007 08:56:43 PM
This is my second project from The Happy Hooker. I just started reading patterns yesterday, and I was so surprised that this came off well without a hitch! I'm a beginning crocheter, and I only have one hook (5.5mm) so I did it with that. I also used worsted weight acrylic yarn (Red Heart Super Saver for green and Caron 1lb for the rose). I'm making all my holiday gifts this year; this is going to one of my teenage friends. I think she'll like it! I reversed the colors of the flower to add more contrast. This project was done in an evening.
