31  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: inspired by: chinese charm bag on: October 17, 2004 07:52:42 AM
nice bag.  Is it a good book?  I am looking for something for my 15 year old daughter who wants to learn to knit.  And I am not a knitter.

32  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / pumpkin deocorations/photo working now! on: October 16, 2004 06:54:22 PM
Saw this in a magazine and made them yesterday.  I bought the carveable pumpkins at Michaels and cut the top off.  In one I put a fall bouquet and in the other I put a candle holder and candle.  I was pleased with the results. What do you think?

33  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: advice for a beginner/teen on: October 10, 2004 09:12:13 PM
Thanks!  I love the sophie purse.  We'll have to wait for a break from school tho.  It is not unusual for her to get 2-3 hours sleep since she takes 5 honors classes.  Maybe we can start it when my Mom visits and she can help interpret the instructions!

Funny you should ask about her sewing ability.  She has been sewing for a few years, takes lessons after school, and will soon be sewing circles around me!  As a matter of fact, she specializes in costumes and is interested in costume design.   But, knitting would be a new venture.

Oh, and we live in Houston, so cold-weather knitting projects are out.

Any idea of a good project for my 15 year old daughter to start out with.  I am thinking that she would enjoy a felted purse.  I appreciate the advice.  I am not a knitter, but my mom is.  She's taken a long hiatus from it though and is not up on new ideas.

36  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help with slippery fabric. on: September 05, 2004 12:42:23 PM
DD had this problem with some sheer fabric she was making curtains with.  the lady at joanns said to put tissue paper over it, sew it and then remove the tissue.  it worked.  it was a pain, but it worked.
37  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Elizabeth - an Elizabethan doll on: September 01, 2004 11:38:40 AM
Wow!  My 15 year old DD is obsessed with Queen Elizabeth I and anything Tudor or Elizabethan.  We took a trip this summer to london to experience it.

She is thinking of becoming a costume designer.

Have you seen the Peggy Nisbet dolls?   You can usually find  bunch on ebay.  We have several.

fun.

Your doll is beautiful!
