11  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Night Time Camping Tile Coasters (5 pics) on: November 02, 2011 07:06:06 PM
I painted these 4 tiles for my company I have started.  I would love any feedback, good or bad.  I of course think they look nice, but your opinions matter most when it comes to selling them.

I am doing both freestyle painted as well as decoupage and other mediums.

Thank you for looking.

12  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Pricecheck, please!! Or How Much is Reasonable... on: November 02, 2011 12:25:58 PM
Hi GrimmEverafter

I too am in the process of starting a small business, so I am not the least bit experienced with pricing my items.

BUT, I am a very experienced shopper Wink

Personally, $15 for a nice hand made doll is pretty cheap.  They may even sell too fast, which is not always a good sign.  I would first try and figure your cost-of-goods, and then go from there.

Also, have you thought of having clothing that can be purchased for instant customization of your dolls?  Just a thought.

I'm very curious to what the other experienced crafters have to say.

13  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Business Name - Help much needed on: November 02, 2011 12:21:29 PM
Hi All,

I have been creating stock in a business that I am starting, but am at the point where I am ready to formally file the proper paperwork for Sales Tax, state, IRS, etc.

My products are coasters, magnets, key ring plaques and coat racks, most of which are hand painted.  I do not want to limit the company name to just these products, as I have a 1,000 ideas Wink

So far, I have thought of the following:

Jenny's Junk House
The Squared House
House Squared (House2)
This Squared Home

I am NOT good with words.  At least not as good as I am with paints, which doesn't say much!)

I respect all the crafters on this site and could not think of a better group of people to ask.

Thank you in advance.

14  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Ceramic Tile Coasters - SEALANT HELP! on: October 27, 2011 06:03:35 AM
Calling all crafters, I need help, big time!

I am trying to find a way to seal Ceramic Tile Coasters that I have made.  I am not using the STAZON Ink to color them in, but I know those are pretty much self sealing when baked.

I am decoupaging fabric and papers, as well as freehand acrylic painting.  I cannot seem to find any decent directions that provide any information for sealing.  The few directions that do have sealants listed, must have had a really thick coffee mug, because they do not work.  I have 2 different types of coffee mugs myself that I use for testing the sealants.  The first one I try, doesn't even heat the tile when boiling water is added.  The second one instantly melts the sealants, mod podge, etc.

I will be testing Rustoleum High Heat Clear sealant tonight, which will be 24 hours after 3 coats.  As of this morning, it still smells like spray paint, and when I use my fingernail to see if it dents, it does.  So I'm not sure that this is a long term fix.

I really enjoy making these and I don't want to find out that all I can use them for is hanging on the wall.

Any help would be more than appreciated.

Thank you so much.

15  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Re: Trying on Items at Craft Fairs on: October 14, 2011 07:34:23 AM
Hello There.  I do not have any experience with selling items at craft fairs and am just getting started myself.  BUT, I do have a lot of experience at attending and buying from them Wink   This past weekend I went to a rather large one, and there were people with crocheted hats and shawls, etc.  They did not seem to have a problem with people trying them on, including my son whom wanted the crocheted crab hat.  I did not sense any stress or attitude from the sellers, but I myself was nervous as to whether he should be trying them on.  I wasn't sure what the proper etiquette was, and there were no other customers for me to learn from.

In the end, we had to buy a different hat because the original choice (monkey) didn't look right when put on his head.  Hence the second choice of the crab.  So, being able to try them on allowed for me to not waste my money on the wrong product.

I'm not sure that information helps.

16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Help Please! Need Bead Ideas... on: August 11, 2009 09:29:47 AM
Hi All,  I don't normally post, but absolutely admire all of your projects.  But now I need your help.  I am getting ready to start a Weight Loss Competition Club/Business.  I wanted to give something to the person that has lost some weight, at the weekly weigh-ins, so I came up with an idea.  At first, I thought of making shields out of pillows, and the shields represent your strengh/Confidence/Self Esteem/Etc.  I would give out one bead per pound lost each week, that they could/would sew onto their pillows.  The more "bling bling" the Self Esteem Shield has, the stronger you are becoming.

Great idea, but my closest friend and my sister totally vetoed the shield.  So they came up with Tote Bags.  That way they can carry their weightloss journals and folders, and still be showing their beads.

So as usual, I headed over to the OrientalTrading Cite, and fell in love with the Lampwork and glass beads.  So I have decided to use those, that way multiple kinds can be purchased, and everybody can personalize their collage of beads.

Now my question to you.  Can you come up with something, similar to the shield and the canvas tote bags, that we could display these beads onto?

Rules...

They must be easy to transport.
They must be easy to display - not requiring anything special
They shouldn't be corny, like the shield.  (not my words).  ha ha

Thank you all for your help.
