21  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: I need your help restoring my camper! on: June 17, 2009 08:09:00 AM
I cannot wait to see what you do with this - it is LOADED with potential!!

Micheals has almost nothing but acrylic yarn, so there should be some selection there.   The one in Park Royal is pretty easy to get to by transit.

There's also Homecraft Importers on 4th.... but I haven't been there in ages, so not sure what they carry: http://www.homecraftimporters.ca/

As one of the volunteer sorters at past Swap-o-rama-rama events (and again this year).... sorry to say things are definitely not sorted by size.   It's pretty chaotic there and the sorters just sort into general categories (i.e. women's tops), and even doing just that it's hard to keep up with the flow of clothes coming in.   Sorry!

But - it's an awesome event and this year there are crafty workshops and a craft supply swap too!

That is an amazing transformation!   It was so ugly before that I couldn't appreciate what great lines it has - but in the after shot - it's beautiful!

That is awesome awesome awesome!    I love it!     What colour was your warp?

Thanks guys!

My cats are pretty indifferent to the loom.  THey don't try to climb it or play with the yarn on it or anything.  They don't particularly like the noise it makes but they calm down and relax.   I'm surprised they aren't more interested, actually.   Cats.  Roll Eyes

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

It is a fabulous colour, I'm totally in love with it.   And I'm itching to make more hats just because I love the finished product so much!   Yay for good crochet patterns!!

I snagged a nifty small floor loom a few months ago - so happy to find something that (sort of) fit into my tiny apartment.   Over the holidays I got a chance to warp it up finally!    I used some yarn I had on hand that I recycled from an ugly sweater (it's an angora/wool blend, super soft).   I didn't do anything complicated, since it was my first go on a floor loom ever!

Once warped up it went really quickly.   I still have to finish the edges and wash it so it'll relax but I couldn't wait to show it off....

here's the floor loom, and my view while weaving (of the heritage house next door):

And here's the almost finished product:

I was surprised too - their website has lots of book binding stuff.   The person I spoke with tried to be helpful but her best suggestions were to try Michaels or look online.  (uh, thanks?)    In the meantime, I'm using plain ol Elmer's school glue which is okay but not quite as professional.     I'll probably just have to order it online.
30  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Divine hat = love! on: January 23, 2009 11:30:09 PM
My first finished project of 09.... it's a small one, but it's done and I love it!

It's the Divine hat - pattern here: http://www.rheatheylia.com/index.php?page=patterns&id=0

Done in Bernat Satin yarn in a fantastic purple colour.   I love this hat!
