1  Re: DIY Kit Swap Round Six - October 2006 in The Swap Gallery by plath on: October 28, 2006 02:33:28 PM
I just received my sewing kit from Miss violaceous-- it's great!

She sent me really cool fabric already cut into the pieces-- love the brown with the green/turquoise-- needles, thread, a zipper, a great instruction cd that has an awesome powerpoint presentation including a beginner project--a tote and an intermediate project-- a zippered pouch, plus lots of tips that I can't wait to investigate further, a tape measure, seam ripper AND a gnome pincushion that she made!  She must have been stalking my wists and seen my love of gnomes!

Thanks so much!

I'm so glad you liked your embroidery kit hokiekate Smiley  Those are flour sack towels, which I like better than "tea towels."  I hope you feel better and are crafting again soon!

I just received a sewing kit from Tanza:

She sent some great fabric, a dressmaker pencil, 3 zippers, buttons, thread and a homemade pincushion with pins.  Thanks Tanza!  She's going to email me some instructions Smiley  I can't wait to get sewing!

Thanks guys Smiley  I used a sulky transfer pen.  I could never get the lines dark enough when I tried the pencils, but the pen works great!

I actually just finished it today:

I used my own color choices, so the colors aren't true to the program, but I still like it Smiley  My dh just told me yesterday that he's never seen any of the schoolhouse rock programs, so I ordered the set on dvd from amazon.  I can't wait to see them all over again!

Ok here is my contribution Smiley  My mom's house is decorated in a southwestern design, so I stitched these kitchen towels up for her birthday.  I'm not super-happy with the colors, but oh well.

6  Trogdor!!! in Needlework: Completed Projects by plath on: September 07, 2006 05:14:55 AM
I just stitched this up over the weekend.  It's on a kitchen towel.  Dh wants me to stitch another one up to give to one of his friends.  They made a HUGE pumpkin chucking trebuchet with dragon spikes a few years ago and named it Trogdor.

8  My 1st ever embroidery in Needlework: Completed Projects by plath on: August 23, 2006 07:06:57 AM
I'm a prolific knitter, but have never tried embroidery until I spied the awesome wee wonderful (really wish I snagged her patterns before they sold out!) and sublime stitching websites, so I decided to pick up the Stitch it Kit at B&N last week.  I must say, I LOVE how quick embroidery is-- so much more of an instant gratification than knitting is.

Anyway, here's my first stab at embroidery:

It's not perfect, but I think it's pretty darn cute.  I used all split stitch.
