1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Soap - condensation? Help! on: May 28, 2008 08:41:33 PM
I make just basic soaps using melt and pour, adding in fragrance, and soap liquid colouring.

For some reason, a lot of the soaps form what looks like little bubbles of consensation, anywhere between the day after they are made up to a week later.  It does not happen with the ones I don't colour (but still add fragrance to).  The little bubbles stay, and they appear to be a darker colour than the soap.

Any ideas?  Thanks!
2  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / How do I get my soaps smooth? on: January 18, 2008 09:56:21 PM
I've been using melt and pour, and putting in into molds/moulds (however you want to spell it!)  But the "top" (which is the bootom when you press them out of the mold) has bubbles, and a rough edge.  What can I do to fix this?

Thanks!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Candles in glasses? on: January 15, 2008 03:16:58 PM
Hi!

I am just wondering whether it is safe to pour candles into wine glasses.  I have some I have etched, and a customer would like it turned into a candle.  I use the soy wax.  Will the heat of pouring, or the heat of burning the candle cause the glass to break?  They are pretty thick glass.

Thankyou for any ideas!
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / What wood? on: January 11, 2008 06:29:10 PM
I am wanting to make some hair clips with oval shaped wood that can be gently curved to follow the curve of the hair clip it would be attached to.  Any suggestions of what sort of wood I should use to be able to create the gentle curve, AND for the curve to remain?

Thanks!

5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / Which Glue? on: January 11, 2008 03:02:01 PM
I have a scrapbook project in which I need to glue two pieces of acetate together.  But I can't work out what glue to use!

I tried hot glue, but once it cooled, it peeled off.  Craft glue still hasn't dried after 12 hours.

Is there a special type of glue I should use?

Thankyou!

6  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Custom Etching Stencils on: January 07, 2008 10:56:07 PM
I am just wondering if there is a company who will produce custom etching stencils?  I'd ideally want reuseable ones.  I have some designs in mind that would be a great line for our shop, but making the stencil myself is out of the question (not so steady hands).

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / What Tie Pattern? on: December 29, 2007 03:23:29 PM
I've painted some silk, and I want to turn it into a men's tie.  Does anyone ahve any suggestions on a particular pattern I should use?  I've never made a tie before!

Thanks!

8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / What's wrong with my candles? on: December 19, 2007 10:16:23 PM
Sad  I don't have a photo, but will try to describe them.  One has sort of a small crack around the wick.  It's not too bad for a first attempt, but I am wondering what would have done this?

I also poured into an old cup cake tin to some melts.  They aren't cracked, but have like a white foamy texture (the melts themselves are blue).  How do people make their candle tops so smooth?

Mine are done with the soy candle stuff.

9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Using a serger? on: December 19, 2007 10:00:52 PM
Hi all!

I've had a serger for a while now and have just realised I really don't know how to use it!  Apparently it should be able to do rolled hems.  How on earth does a serger do a hem?  lol I am a total beginner.  It is a Toyota brand, but I can't think of the model number.

10  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / What scents can go in soap? on: December 12, 2007 11:20:40 PM
I am just starting out with melt and pour soaps, and the ones I've done so far I have been with a cup cake oil scent made by someone specifically for soap.  Are their particular types of scents/oils that can be used/are safe for the skin?
