1  Avoid the Noids in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by childrenoftherice on: May 28, 2009 08:09:16 AM
I forgot all about these! I made them 3 years ago, one for me
and one for a friend who loves purple.

For those of you who are too young to remember,
The Noid used to be the Dominos Pizza mascot, kind of like
McDonalds' Hamburglar or the Trix rabbit. And if you STILL
can't remember that far back...He's the Lord Voldemort to Harry Potter's pizza Tongue

These are just made with felt and hot glue. The purple one has a whip stitch
to seal it but I wanted the red one sealed by glue.

Original Noid

3  Badass McBloke Pierced Death Metal Sock Monkey in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by childrenoftherice on: April 17, 2008 08:07:16 AM
his grumpy disposition and piercings are a tribute
to my death metal days where guys, if they weren't
thrashing around, were standing around looking like
this, "enjoying" the show.

the piercings are simply key rings and the
eyebrows are small pieces of self-adhering velcro, enjoy!

5  black scratchboard - clothespins and gorilla in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by childrenoftherice on: April 02, 2008 12:55:37 PM
for those of you who haven't used or have heard of scratchboard,
it's basically like a piece of posterboard (or clay) with a layer of
ink on it that you scratch/etch away with a tool with the fine tip
like that of a needle. it's really fun, but EXTREMELY tedious!
it's also a bit of a mind trip because you have think backwards...
you don't just draw the picture, you have to draw the negative of it
(light areas, instead of dark)

sorry the gorilla's kind of blurry, i am sans scanner right now
and my camera couldn't get it just right Undecided

6  Eye See You - b/w acrylic on canvas in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by childrenoftherice on: March 26, 2008 07:13:56 PM
i've been painting mostly in oils at the school's studio,
but since i'm on break and don't have access to a
good cleaning/disposal area for my turpenoid,
i thought i'd try to paint with acrylics at home since
they're water-soluable. i also wanted to see how well i could
blend acrylics before they dried.

size is about 10 x 10 inches

7  BOOSKA overload! customized Munny and orange vinyl chair in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by childrenoftherice on: March 26, 2008 06:50:13 PM
so one of my favorite characters is a Japanese monster
(equivalent to America's Barney) so i decided to customize
some things of mine.

my friend got me a Munny (customizable designer toy)
and i immediately knew what to do with it. Smiley

i found the bright orange vinyl low club chair on the street
next to my car so i "borrowed" a shopping cart and took it home Smiley
it was so cool but so plain, it absolutely screamed DRAW ON ME!

8  purple people eater in a red apron in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by childrenoftherice on: March 21, 2008 11:35:58 AM
it can be done at this point but i want to add some columns in the back as well as more contrast/shading on the face, what do you think?

so the red apron came from no one responding to what i should put on her,
so i looked down and decided to paint the red apron i wear. Smiley

9  oil painting inspired by: industrialism, indian art, yoga, mannequins in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by childrenoftherice on: March 15, 2008 08:34:32 AM
just wanted to see if i could break away from my
normal observational studies to do some kind of
ethereal/indie piece with smooth blending.
there's actually more contrast and depth but it's hard to capture.

10  door-sized duct tape window art - like stained glass in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by childrenoftherice on: January 29, 2008 06:12:43 PM
i don't know why i never posted this on here until now, but here goes:

i made this for class and the instructions were to make
something the size of the door that would filter light
so i immediately thought of stained glass.

this is made entirely out of duct tape and colored acetate/plastic
it took forever because the "back" is consists of thousands of
tiny rectangles (like mosaics) to accommodate the curves
because there couldn't be a "back" for a window hanging

hope you like it!
