1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Good source for painting tutes? on: January 11, 2014 10:52:27 PM
So I've taken a couple of classes at the local Painting With a Twist and love it, but at $35 - $45 a class I just can't take that many.  I'm not comfortable enough in my abilities to just paint, does anyone know of a good, free resource for instructions?  These are the type of things I'm looking for http://www.paintingwithatwist.com/lexington/calendar/I especially like animals and trees.  Foxes are my absolute favorites!

I love it! What yarn did you use?

Have you tried BurdaStyle?  I sometimes have luck there....  You can even search for free patterns.

4  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Softee Chunky substitution? on: July 02, 2012 03:36:51 PM
So I'm working on the Lil' Monkey set and ordered some Softee Chunky.  Little did I know they have changed the size of this yarn!! Ugh!  Now the hat is huge (will probably fit my baby when he is about a year old  Undecided ) not to mention it is taking a ton of it to complete the set!  What yarn makes a good substitute because I am ready to just write this project off, frog it and use the yarn for scarves.   Cry

It looks pretty close to an item of ladies clothing from the civil war believe it or not!  Like this http://www.csa-scla.org/articles/Sontag.htm and I think there is a pattern here.  You can see some more versions here http://ladysresource.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=94469771 and here http://wardhouse.wordpress.com/2010/06/18/sontag/ I think you could adapt one of these patterns and add some cable stitches or something.

OK, I won't worry as much then.  I let my husband send it for me and I was afraid he messed up the address or something. Smiley
