1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Glitter nails TUTORIAL!! on: May 10, 2013 08:12:01 AM

I ♥ glitter nails. Mainly because they last FOREVER and well…you know… it’s glitter, what’s not to love?!?
AND on the plus side a glitter mani is super easy to do and pretty foolproof, you just can’t mess it up…the only downside is waiting for it to dry but that’s a problem with every manicure in my book.
So, let’s get started!
You will need:
- base coat
- fine glitter
- top coat
- nail polish remover and q-tips for cleanup

STEP 1
Apply basecoat. You want to slather it on, well not too much but pretty thick, more than you would normally apply anyway.

STEP 2
Quickly shake glitter on nail. Obviously the wetter the top coat the stickier it will be. MAKE SURE you do this over a piece of paper so you can save all the glitter that doesn’t fall on the nail.

STEP 3
Apply top coat. Do this twice and unless you want your top coat to be full of glitter, wipe the brush on the paper or some cotton soaked in nail polish remover before dipping it in the bottle.
STEP 4
Clean up any areas that need it. After your nails are dry wash your hands to get rid of any excess glitter stuck on the cuticles.
THAT’S IT! you’re done!
Now sit back and enjoy your sparkly glittery nails  Grin

I’m so excited to share my new recipe for DIY body lotion!
It’s a slight variation to the old one, (see thread http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=418789.msg4957818#msg4957818)
so still 3 main ingredients plus essential oils if you want fragrance.
so, here we go:

Well to be completely honest, it does separate a bit but only when you scoop out the amount you need with your finger. I never saw it as a problem since the separation is always minimal and once you massage it in it binds together again Smiley

It's really easy to make, the cleanup is harder than the actual making of the lotion, but don't let that discourage you!
I'm actually working on making a video tutorial soon along with some new improved recipes and tips.
Check out the DIY lip balm tutorial I posted today

they make a great pair when gifting to a friend! Smiley
6  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / TUTORIAL: DIY lip balm on: January 09, 2013 01:41:18 AM
It's been really chilly lately here in little ol' Athens so my lips have been really feeling it, i.e. they were really chapped!

But not anymore! This DIY lip balm recipe is super easy to make and you can easily customize it too.

Try substituting the sunflower oil with sweet almond oil, coconut oil or sesame seed oil, the shea butter with cocoa or mango butter and the tangerine essential oil with peppermint or vanilla (yum!).

Video and complete instructions on my blog!

this makes a great gift along with my DIY body lotion

7  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Re: TUTORIAL: Studded high tops on: January 08, 2013 03:21:06 AM
Love them  Grin did you do any thing on the inside to stop the studs making your feet sore? I was thinking that maybe gluing some felt over the back of the studded section might help with that, I had to cover the insides of my studded belt with duct tape as I kept getting poked  Roll Eyes
yes that's a great idea! I didn't do anything and the truth is I've had a couple sock calamities!  Undecided
8  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / TUTORIAL: Studded high tops on: January 08, 2013 01:21:49 AM

I bought these studs aaaaages ago and they’ve been staring at me BEGGING to be used!
So the other day I had an epiphany! Studded high tops!
So here’s a quick tutorial on how YOU TOO can make them yourself
You will need:

1.A pair of high tops
2.Spray paint (optional)
3.Studs (I had two different sizes)
4.Thick round elastic
5.Scissors
6.A pair of pliers AND
you might want to keep a thimble around(trust me you’ll see why)
Step 1

This step is optional!
Spray the white parts of the shoes (sole and toe) with the spray paint.
I used black paint but you could do whatever color you want or skip this step and while the shoes unpainted.
Step 2

Start arranging your studs on the side of the shoe,
pushing in and using the pliers to close the ends on the inside
Step 3

Keep going until:
a) you like the pattern
b)you want to shoot yourself
(studding is NOT an easy thing to do, let me tell you)
c)your fingers are so sore you can’t go on
(this is why you need the thimble!)
Step 4

Start lacing your shoes.
Start at the toe and do a double knot at the ends
so that you have no tying up to do when you wear your shoes.
YAY slip-ons!

Now go ROCK your new shoes!!!

thanks for stopping by!  Grin
9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / TUTORIAL: Homemade Body Lotion on: January 08, 2013 01:15:52 AM
Well it was only a matter of time until I got into making my own cosmetics Smiley
So I started with body lotion with this recipe from ReadyMade and the resuls were kind of weird.

It turned out more like a body butter than lotion, probably because the beeswax was too much.Tried it out again this time with half the beeswax and the results were pretty good!
The lotion/cream melts into the skin and is perfect for the winter when skin (especially mine) needs a lot of extra moisture.

And with only natural and few ingredients it's good for you AND easy to make!

this yields a big batch, about 3 300gr  jars so it's perfect if you're making for yourself and your friends and family!

Here's my recipe for Homemade Body Lotion

2 cups sage and lavender tea

3/4 cup olive oil

3/4 cup almond oil

2 1/2 Tbsp beeswax pellets

optional: essential oil for fragrance

Make your tea and set aside to steep

While your tea is steeping mix the oils and beeswax in a pyrex cup or a double boiler if you have it, I just used a small coffee pot. Boil a little water in a pan just enough so that your pot is halfway immersed into it. When the water boils place your pot in the pan and wait for the beeswax to melt.

When the wax melts take your pot out of the water and set aside to cool a bit. Now take your tea and strain it into a blender. (You could skip the blender and use a bowl and whisk but it would take you a while. )

Start your blender and slowly start pouring in the oil through the top opening of the lid, you'll see the magic start happening and your cream forming!

Add any essential oils if you like (I used jasmine and grapefruit) and pour into clean jars. Cover with paper towels until the cream cools down then you're ready to stick some labels on and gift or use your homemade cream!

This will keep for 3 months or 6 months in the fridge.

Did you make this? I'd love to hear your feedback!

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Holiday Wreath on: January 08, 2013 01:12:16 AM

I'm a little late in posting this but hey, maybe bookmark it for next year? Smiley
If you don't have the time or the money to go all out with your decorations this year, but you still want to have some sort of festive cheer around your space then this holiday wreath is perfect for you. It's quick, easy and cheap to make!
check out the youtube video for the howto:http://www.youtube.com/embed/JgyBwBcTTcc
You will need:
- a cardboard box/a piece of cardboard  big enough for you to cut your wreath form out of OR a wreath form
- tinsel garland or whatever garland you want
- box cutter/scissors
- ribbon
- string
- a thumbtack
- glue gun + glue sticks
- various ornaments/embellishments

Step 1

Start by making a knot on your piece of string and attach the thumbtack through the knot to make a compass. Trace a cirlce on the cardboard as big as you want your wreath to be. Do the same for the inner circle of the wreath or you could use a plate or other round object to trace around.

Step 2

Cut out the two circles you just traced from the cardboard. You're left with donut shape, this is your wreath form.

Step 3

Lay out the garland on the form and decide on how you'd like to glue it. Once you've decide it's time to start gluing!

Step 4

Glue the garland around your form with your glue gun

Step 5

Arrange your embellishments however you please!

Step 6

Cut a piece of ribbon and glue on the back of the wreath so you can hang it up

Step 7

That's it! You're done! Enjoy your new holiday wreath! Smiley

thanks for watching and reading and

Happy Holidays!!
