1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Birdy Birdie Sling! on: June 01, 2009 05:09:12 PM
Just wanted to show you guys a new bag I made from Amy Butler's Birdie Sling pattern...

I used a light pink Joel Dewberry fabric from his "Aviary" line for the outside...

and for the contrast bands and interior panels, I used a coordinating vintage Waverly print in fuschia. I used a chocolate brown fabric with pink roses to make up the pockets. I also added a magnetic snap to the interior, to keep this gigantic purse closed Smiley

I gave it to my mom for her birthday- I think she liked it!
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Bag Bonanza! [ aka, I haven't uploaded pictures to my computer in a while] on: September 25, 2008 04:15:03 PM
As the title suggests, I have been a bit behind about posting my creations to Craftster...

Without further ado, here is what I have been up to lately! This one is made of a vintage soft gray corduroy-like fabric, lined with a pink silk brocade.

an insight peek...

Then, we have a lined zipper pouch- the fabric on this was really cool, because it was pre-pleated.

an inside peek...

This bag represents my first attempt at applique- I love how it turned out! The inside is lined with the orange and brown fabric checked fabric that is used in the applique, and the outside is a brown tweed.

Here is a close-up of the applique

This is a zippered pouch with a key ring, crafted out of fabric I received in a swap (thanks whoopdedoo_5!)

And finally, the bag I am most proud of creating, is an Amy Butler Birdie sling. I crafted this using heavy fabrics, wools and tweeds, in an attempt to make this a bag suitable for fall for my future mother-in law. I would recommend using lighter fabrics- I broke a needle at the end going through all those layers! I added a snap to keep the bag closed.

Here you can see by birdie lining pocket (That fabric was also from whoopdedo_5!)

aaand a shot of the other pocket (sorry so blurry)

Any comments are always appreciated!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Who knew tampons could be so swanky? on: April 20, 2008 09:12:44 PM
Now presenting a swanky tampon wallet, adapted from a tutorial found on Craftster that has since been removed.

The case is made from leather obtained from a thrift-store mini skirt. The seam on the outer case is a seam from the skirt.
The lining of this case is made from a pink cotton that was also a thrift store find. The original tutorial called for a magnetic clasp... since the craft store near me was out of those, I used a metal snap  instead. I recommend using the magnetic clasp, because the simple snap is pretty weak, and I already tugged it off accidentally.   Roll Eyes

The ever important action shot....

Hope you guys enjoy!

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Zipper pouch, basic tote, swanky tampon wallet- image heavy on: April 20, 2008 09:07:41 PM
Just got a chance to upload these...

The first bag is a zipper pouch created using one of the easy tutorials on craftster- it was my first zipper ever!

The outer fabric is a thick gray tweed freecycled from Craiglist, and the inner fabric is a minty green cotton, also freecycled from craigslist. The flower applique is teal velvet, with a vintage button on top.
I also fashioned a zipper pull from ribbon, which is not shown very well in these pictures.

The second bag is a simple tote made from blue and white cotton toile. The bag is unlined, but I am thinking about going back and adding a lining to make it more finished. I'd add an action shot of me carrying the bag, but since no one else is home right now, that will have to wait...
Sorry this picture is on its side- I tried to correct it in photobucket, but the program is being wonky right now...

This is a close-up of this cute fabric! Grin

The final project is a swanky tampon holder, adapted from a tutorial found on Craftster that has since been removed.

The case is made from leather obtained from a thrift-store mini skirt. The seam on the outer case is a seam from the skirt.
The lining of this case is made from a pink cotton that was also a thrift store find. 5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Pleated Clutch and Shoulder Bag- My first bags on: April 04, 2008 09:29:03 AM
Thanks to some awesome tutorials online, I made these two bags- a pleated clutch, inspired by Laurasaurus' "Classy Pleated Clutch" tutorial, and a shoulder bag, using an excellent tutorial found on Threadbangers.com website (http://tinyhappy.typepad.com/tiny_happy/2006/06/shoulder_bag_tu.html)

Since I don't have a free-arm sewing machine, and my lining for the clutch was thick velvet, I hand- sewed the band on the pleated clutch- This came out fine, but I think next time I will pick material better suited to the project.

The shoulder bag was crafted out of free material from craigslist (the best kind!)- the lining doesn't match perfectly, but I think it adds some character...
