That's fantastic--both the creative hat, and your kindheartedness!

693  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Fess up, who's got a knitting blog? on: May 04, 2005 05:45:07 PM
Can't resist a plug:
http://crochety.blogspot.com
Actually, if anyone's any good with Blogger templates, I just tried to put up an FO gallery and for some reason blogger is putting huge (table-sized) spaces in front of my tables. (see http://crochety.blogspot.com/2004/07/finished-projects-gallery.html) Any help would be appreciated!
694  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: And I Never Finish It on: May 04, 2005 05:40:50 PM
Guilty as charged--I have
-12 unfinished knitting/crocheting projects (you'd think a new year's resolution to keep the # of concurrent projects at TEN or below would be easy to keep, but no....) that are listed on my blog and a few more I'm too ashamed to list there
-one unfinished skirt (a stitch and botch in and of itself...something about trying to use a regular zipper as an invisible one...)
-3 lone earrings
-untold beads, ribbon, yarn, fabric, rick rack, bias tape, buttons, belt buckles, rings, bedazzler, bead loom...the list goes on...
I have a tendency to crap out on a project right at the very end stages, particularly as I HATE finishing.
And just today, even with a yarn stash that would fill a closet, I thought about going to Old Navy to buy a cheapo XXXL sweater to take apart for the yarn. And I still might!
695  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: I thought I knew how to knit but I don't and I am sad. on: May 04, 2005 05:33:40 PM
It's sad to see knit-snobbery. Why is that necessary?!
My personal sad learning-to-knit story is that my mother taught me how to knit, but just the knit stitch. I tried to learn how to purl off some website or another, but for some reason, I kept ending up with more stitches than I was supposed to--particularly when trying to do moss stitch. I was baffled!
Until I realized (when reading something about yarn-overs)... that you're supposed to switch the yarn from back to front when changing from knit to purl. My mom laughed at me when I told her.
696  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: draped bed jacket -sort of- w link to pattern on: May 04, 2005 05:17:25 PM
That's beautiful!
I've kept from making sweaters out of crochet because I usually don't like the way the fabric turns out, but that is just GORGEOUS!!!
I'm full of questions:
-what kind of yarn? (pretty color, it looks great even if it's acrylic!)
-size hook?
-how long did it take?
697  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Knitty's Cleo Halter in white on: May 04, 2005 04:48:00 PM
Thank you all for your kind comments!
I used a lace pattern called "Falling Leaves" from The Encyclopedia of Knitting. Since it's just a rectangle you're making, it's easy to substitute any lace pattern that catches your fancy.
There are a bunch of beautiful ones at http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns-lace.htm
698  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitty's Cleo Halter in white on: May 04, 2005 07:30:09 AM
I finished this a while ago, hoping to debut it with the advent of spring. Unfortunately, as spring has not been particularly forthcoming to the city this year, I got impatient and decided to debut it here.

I loved this pattern--I hate sewing but doing the cups separately and then piecing it all together allowed for a really fabulous fit. I substituted a lace pattern for the main body to avoid getting bored.
Now if only the weather would permit me to wear it...
699  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: anyone for Knitty's I Do? on: May 02, 2005 03:07:16 PM
I've been playing around with swatching with some Patons Cotton DK, and it seems like it might work. I'm not allowing myself to cast on until I finish some backlog, though!

An update on the knitalone:

Nothing too impressive yet, lots of rip and re-knit :-P
